A Convolutional Neural Network for the Detection of Gravity Waves in Satellite Observations and Numerical Simulations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 11, 16 June 2025.
Abstract Comparisons between observed and model‐resolved gravity waves (GWs) are crucial for evaluating general circulation model (GCM) simulation accuracy and understanding wave characteristics. However, observational noise often obscures waves, complicating such comparisons.

The Short Life of Upvalley Wind in a High‐Altitude Valley in the Colorado Rocky Mountains

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 130, Issue 11, 16 June 2025.
Abstract Thermally driven upvalley (UV) wind in the upper East River Valley in the Colorado Rocky Mountains often unexpectedly stops in midmorning and reverses back to downvalley (DV) wind. We use a comprehensive observational data set for a nearly two‐year long period to analyze the wind system and boundary layer evolution in this high‐altitude valley

Localized Breakdown of the Niobium Anodic Oxide Film by Bromides

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 31, Issue 32, June 6, 2025.
The bromide‐induced localized breakdown of niobium anodic oxide films depends on the bromide concentration and potential scan rate. Related experimental relationships agree with the predictions of a point defect model (PDM) under certain conditions. Within the same potential region, niobium maintains passivity in the more aggressive chloride media. PDM
