The Planck-LFI flight model composite waveguides [PDF]
The Low Frequency Instrument on board the PLANCK satellite is designed to give the most accurate map ever of the CMB anisotropy of the whole sky over a broad frequency band spanning 27 to 77 GHz.

Development of a fast radiative transfer model for ground-based microwave radiometers (ARMS-gb v1.0): validation and comparison to RTTOV-gb [PDF]
This study proposes a fast radiative transfer model, the Advanced Radiative Transfer Modeling System – ground-based (ARMS-gb), designed to simulate brightness temperatures observed by ground-based microwave radiometers.

Techniques for computing regional radiant emittances of the earth-atmosphere system from observations by wide-angle satellite radiometers, phase 3 [PDF]
Radiometers on earth orbiting satellites measure the exchange of radiant energy between the earth-atmosphere (E-A) system and space at observation points in space external to the E-A system.

Microwave radiometry as a tool to calibrate tropospheric water-vapor delay [PDF]
Microwave radiometers were used to measure the emission line due to the water vapor molecules of atmospheric emission. Four separate field tests were completed which compared radiometers to other techniques which measure water vapor.

Monitoring leaf temperatures and environmental dynamics in propagation greenhouses
Accurate measurement of leaf temperature in plant cuttings is needed to schedule mist irrigation based on leaf vapor pressure deficit, and in order to maintain optimal temperature ranges for photosynthesis and root development.

Novel use of an adapted ultraviolet double monochromator for measurements of global and direct irradiance, ozone, and aerosol [PDF]
A novel ultraviolet spectrometer has been developed and tested over 10 years at Lauder, New Zealand. The system, UV2, makes alternating measurements of the global and direct UV irradiance and can therefore be used to measure ozone and aerosol optical ...

Cloud optical depth retrievals from the Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) cloud mode observations [PDF]
Cloud optical depth is one of the most poorly observed climate variables. The new “cloud mode” capability in the Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) will inexpensively yet dramatically increase cloud optical depth observations in both number and accuracy ...

A theory for the retrieval of virtual temperature from winds, radiances and the equations of fluid dynamics [PDF]
A technique to deduce the virtual temperature from the combined use of the equations of fluid dynamics, observed wind and observed radiances is described.

Noise-optimized silicon radiometers
This paper describes a new, experimentally verified, noise analysis and the design considerations of the dynamic characteristics of silicon radiometers. Transimpedance gain, loop gain, and voltage gain were optimized versus frequency for photodiode current meters measuring ac and dc optical radiation.
