VDES R‐Mode performance analysis and experimental results
As maritime shipping relies almost exclusively on GNSS, there has been a demand for a backup system in case of a GNSS failure. We introduce and theoretically analyze the positioning performance of VDES R‐Mode as a candidate for an alternative maritime navigation system.

Target‐driven visual navigation in indoor scenes using reinforcement learning and imitation learning
Abstract Here, the challenges of sample efficiency and navigation performance in deep reinforcement learning for visual navigation are focused and a deep imitation reinforcement learning approach is proposed. Our contributions are mainly three folds: first, a framework combining imitation learning with deep reinforcement learning is presented, which ...

Positioning with medium frequency R‐Mode
Abstract R‐Mode is a terrestrial navigation system under development for the maritime domain that provides backup in case of a GNSS outage. This paper describes the first test results for real‐time positioning on board a ship using medium frequency R‐Mode signals.

Abstract Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) is an ESA mission observing Earth at 1.4 GHz with full polarimetry. SMOS images are affected by a noise of solar origin produced by the Sun appearing in the antenna's field of view. In this paper, we study whether this solar signal is of any use for scientific and space weather observations.

Robust navigation using angle of arrival measurements [PDF]
The majority of conventional radionavigation systems are based on Time of Arrival (TOA) measurements of RF signals. By far the most common method is pseudoranging, mainly a result of the undisputed success of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) as

Wideband reconfigurable vector antenna for 3-D direction finding application [PDF]
Direction finding plays a crucial role in various civilian and military applications, related to either radionavigation or radiolocation. Most of the direction finding antennas operate over a wide frequency band, but only a minority of them enable the ...

To meet the high‐performance PNT requirements of the low‐altitude economy, this paper proposes OCDM‐BCS, a novel integrated navigation and communication modulation scheme. Leveraging its linear frequency modulation (LFM) characteristics, OCDM‐BCS demonstrates superior code tracking accuracy, anti‐interference robustness and anti‐multipath capabilities ...

This study presents a dual‐component reliability model for marine radionavigation systems, accounting for both gradual degradation and sudden failures under harsh maritime conditions. The approach integrates failure rate estimation, MTBF analysis and scenario‐based simulation to predict critical operational thresholds and optimise maintenance planning.
