CT for intracavitary radiotherapy planning

American Journal of Roentgenology, 1980
Twenty-two patients with malignant uterine tumors were examined with computed tomography (CT) for treatment planning after insertion of an afterloading Fletcher applicator. The CT findings maximized the individualization of treatment planning, including the number, dosage, and loading arrangement of radioactive sources.

Radiotherapy planning using computed tomography

Cancer, 1981
A critical look at the use of computed tomography (CT) for radiation therapy planning shows problems which all arise from incorrect positioning of the patient. CT is an excellent tool for therapy planning if the patient is positioned identically at the CT scanner and on the therapy couch. This is accomplished by installing matching laser systems at the

Computed tomography for radiotherapy planning

International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 1980
Abstract Images obtained by X-ray transmission computed tomography (CT) assist in planning external beam radiation therapy. Quantitatively, contiguous transverse tomograms may be used to compute radiation dose distributions, based on patient-specific geometry and density of the tissues irradiated.

Radiotherapy treatment planning using lymphoscintigraphy

International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 1986
A method for the three dimensional location of lymph nodes with respect to the skin surface is described. The technique is based on the reconstruction of surface shape using isocentric radiographs taken with metal chains draped on the patient. Registration of the radiographic study to the lymphoscintigraphic study is accomplished automatically by ...

PET for radiotherapy planning

2022
To benefit from modern radiation therapy characterized by highly conformal dose distribution and steep dose gradients, high quality imaging is required for precise tumor delineation. The standard imaging for radiation therapy planning (RTP) remains the acquisition of a dedicated planning computed tomography (CT).

Optimisation of radiotherapy treatment planning

Computer Programs in Biomedicine, 1972
Abstract The necessity of studying the whole of a process of optimisation is emphasised. The problem and objective of radiotherapy are stated and the reasons for treatment planning optimisation being at present confined to the distribution of absorbed dose are discussed.

Virtual simulation in radiotherapy planning

1995
We present a new system for 3D radiotherapy planning, which allows the interactive definition of treatment parameters, the simulation of the “visible” part of the treatment and the evaluation of the precalculated dose distributions. The system makes extensive use of advanced 3D visualisation and simulation techniques, introduces a new visualisation ...

[Inverse radiotherapy planning].

Strahlentherapie und Onkologie : Organ der Deutschen Rontgengesellschaft ... [et al], 1999
In clinical practice it sometimes happens that with currently available conformal radiotherapy techniques no satisfactory dose distribution can be achieved. In these cases inverse radiotherapy planning and intensity modulated radiotherapy may give better solutions.Inverse planning is a technique using a computer program to automatically achieve a ...

Radiotherapy planning of inclined lesions

The British Journal of Radiology, 1979
The angulation of radiotherapy machines to treat inclined lesions was first described by Besford et al. (1964). A detailed mathematical analysis of the general case of an inclined lesion was carried out by Fleming and Orchard (1974), and their theory applied to two specific treatment techniques by Casebow (1976). These two techniques were: “Method 1” –
