Radon Daughter Plateout - I Measurements

Health Physics, 1983
Radon daughter plateout (surface deposition) was measured directly in 1.9 and 20-m3 chambers. To test the effect of different parameters on plateout, measurements were made over a wide range of particle concentrations and sizes. The results indicate that plateout is strongly dependent on particle concentration.

Microdosimetry of Radon and Radon Daughters

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 1990
Abstract We have developed an analytical method for calculations of slowing down spectra (fluence rate spectra) and lineal energy spectra for radon and its important alpha emitting daughters, 218Po and 214Po. We have also made calculations of microdosimetric parameters and quality factors for radon-related alpha particles.

Radon and Radon Daughter Measurements in Solar Buildings

Health Physics, 1983
Measurements of radon and radon daughters in 11 buildings in five states, using active or passive solar heating, showed no significant excess in concentrations over the levels measured in buildings with conventional heating systems. Radon levels in two buildings using rock storage in their active solar systems exceeded the U.S.

Electrets for Passive Radon Daughter Dosimetry

Health Physics, 1984
Electrets are demonstrated to collect radon-daughter aerosols with efficiencies which are similar to the efficiencies of aluminum discs held at a potential equal to the surface potential of the electrets. The properties of the electrets are suitable for incorporation of an electret into a radon-daughter dosimeter as the passive collecting element.

Radon and radon daughter levels in energy efficient housing

Science of The Total Environment, 1985
Radon and radon daughter concentrations have been measured in 33 "energy-efficient" homes in a small subdivision in Kanata, Ontario. Integrated radon measurements were determined over three month periods for a year using solid state nuclear track detectors.

Improved Radon Daughter Monitoring Procedure

American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1969
Abstract A simple, rapid procedure for monitoring radon daughters in mine air has been developed., Air is drawn through a membrane filter for a period, the duration of which is adjusted to the minimum sampling time necessary to give a specified accuracy in the final results.

Radon Daughter Plateout - II Prediction Model

Health Physics, 1983
By a linear programming procedure, we have optimized the Jacobi room model to fit our data on the partitioning of radon daughters between air and wall surfaces (plateout), obtained at high radon concentrations in a small chamber. Subsequently, the optimized model yielded estimates that compared well with plateout data obtained at lower concentrations ...

Radon Daughter Exposures in the U.K.

Health Physics, 1983
Exposure due to the inhalation of the short-lived daughters of 222Rn is the single largest contributor to the exposure of the U.K. population. A survey of dwellings situated largely in the centers of population indicates an annual exposure of 0.16 WLM, on the average.
