Background Concentrations of Radon and Radon Daughters in Canadian Homes

Health Physics, 1980
Abstract Measurements of radon and radon daughters were carried out in 14 Canadian cities on a total of 9999 homes selected in a statistically random manner. The geometric means of the different cities varied from 0.14 to 0.88 pCi/l for radon and 0.0009 to 0.0036 Working Levels for radon daughters.

Investigation of radon daughters

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1963
A Goetz aerosol spectrometer and low-level counting techniques were used in studying the size distribution of natural radioactive aerosol particles. A number of values down to radii of 3×10−6 cm were obtained. These are compared with computed distribution curves and with estimates from experimental work of a different kind.

Radon Daughter Exposure to Uranium Miners

Health Physics, 1982
Radon exposures to U.S. uranium miners under present conditions average about 1.3 WLM per year approximately or equal to 60 WLM per full working lifetime. This is intermediate between (a) the lowest exposures for which there have been excess lung cancers reported among U.S. miners (120-240 WLM) and (b) average environmental radon exposures (16 WLM), so

Measurement of Radon Daughters in Air

Health Physics, 1972
AbstractA simple method for determination of RaA, RaB and RaC has been developed which has a sensitivity of the order of 1 pCi/l. for each nuclide. An air sample is obtained and the total alpha disintegrations in three selected time intervals after the end of air sampling determined.

RADON GAS TESTING: A POOR INDICATOR OF RADON DAUGHTER EXPOSURE

American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1990
The problem of residential radon has created a demand for testing services that has been partly met by industrial hygienists. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), while disavowing responsibility or jurisdiction in this matter, has nonetheless published guidelines for homeowners to use in interpreting test results.

Thoron and Radon Daughters in Different Atmospheres

Health Physics, 1980
AbstractThe radon and thoron daughter concentrations in different atmospheres are discussed in this paper. If the daughter concentrations are expressed in WL, the calculations show that the thoron daughter concentration may well exceed the radon daughter concentration.
