A Radon Exhalation Monitor

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 1996
A radon exhalation monitor has been constructed and calibrated. The monitor is based on the adsorption of radon by active charcoal and the subsequent measurement of its γ activity by means of high resolution γ spectrometry. Exhalation rates may be determined with an accuracy of better than 20% within 48 h after exposure.

Diffusion Model of Radon Exhalation Rates

Health Physics, 1998
Radon migration through walls is considered using an effective diffusion model. One and two dimensional models as well as a spherical geometry are compared. It is concluded that either the 1-dimensional or spherical model, both having analytical solution, may be used for practical purposes. Application is made for typical cases in Athens, Greece.

Radon in the Exhaled Air of Patients in Radon Therapy

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2017
In the Gastein valley, numerous facilities use radon for the treatment of various diseases either by exposure to radon in air or in radon rich thermal water. In this study, six test persons were exposed to radon thermal water in a bathtub and the time-dependent radon activity concentration in the exhaled air was recorded.

Radon Exhalation from the Soil

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 1988
Abstract The exhalation of radon from the soil is the main source for high radon concentration in dwellings. A study of the mechanism of exhalation, its dependence on various parameters and the entry points for radon in houses are presented.

Field Macroradiography Measuring Radon Exhalation

Isotopenpraxis Isotopes in Environmental and Health Studies, 1978
A macroradiographic technique for measuring radon exhalation of various soils in Hungary has been developed. The method is based on long-term simultaneous measurement of the alpha-activity of soil gas at numerous points of a given area with plastic nuclear track detectors. In the present work a two-year experience related to calibration measurements in

Radon Exhalation Rate from Various Building Materials

Health Physics, 1993
Solid-state alpha-track detectors using cellulose nitrate films were used to measure the radon exhalation rates from building materials. The radon flux emitted from the surface of the building material was measured by placing an inverted cup on the top of the building material. Cellulose nitrate film was placed within the cup.

An International Intercomparison of Soil Gas Radon and Radon Exhalation Measurements

Health Physics, 1998
The Environmental Measurements Laboratory hosted the Sixth International Radon Metrology Programme Intercomparison Test and Workshop (IRMP6) from 12-15 June 1995. Thirty participants representing 24 different institutions from 11 countries attended. Laboratory exercises consisted of 220Rn and 222Rn concentration measurements from a source container ...

The Determination of Radon Exhalation Rates

Health Physics, 1983
The exhalation of radon from porous materials like mining wastes and building materials can be determined by studying the growth of radon activity in vessels containing samples of the materials. It is demonstrated that the initial part of the activity growth curve determines the total free exhalation rate of the sample used, independently of container ...

Radon exhalation measurements for environmental and geophysics study

Radiation Physics and Chemistry, 2014
Abstract Transport of radon through materials is a process strongly influenced by several parameters characterizing the materials themselves, such as porosity, permeability, grain size, content of radionuclides and diffusion coefficient of this gas through the interstitial pores and/or fractures of material.

Factors controlling measurements of radon mass exhalation rate

Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2005
Radon mass exhalation rate of soil samples was measured using an exhalation chamber of 10 dm(3) volume and a Lucas cell. The results show that mass of sample, grain size and water content influence the radon mass exhalation rate. For soil of (226)Ra activity concentration about 2500 Bq kg(-1) and samples within the range from 0.20 kg to 0.50 kg, the ...
