Measurement of Radon in Soil Gas

Nature, 1964
Using the method developed for radon measurement in soil gas, the vertical profile of radon concentration in the upper 1 m of soil was investigated. Radon is estimated from the beta activity of daughter products collected on a filter paper from a stored sample containing radon in equilibrium with its daughter products. (M.C.G.)

Radon Content of Soil Gas

Physics, 1932
An electroscope and technique for measuring the radon content of soil gas are described. Measurements were made to answer several questions regarding the radon content of soil gas. It was found that there is no systematic increase of radon content with depth of penetration into a soil, that soil formations appear to have more or less characteristic ...

RADON GAS TESTING: A POOR INDICATOR OF RADON DAUGHTER EXPOSURE

American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1990
The problem of residential radon has created a demand for testing services that has been partly met by industrial hygienists. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), while disavowing responsibility or jurisdiction in this matter, has nonetheless published guidelines for homeowners to use in interpreting test results.

Radon concentration in soil gas: a comparison of methods

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2001
Various methods to determine 222Rn concentration in soil gas were tested at two sites with different soil types in a depth of about 1 m. They included instantaneous (spot), continuous (real-time) and time-averaging procedures. The first test site had a porous soil with high gravel content.

Radiation and radon gas

1993
The element uranium is widely distributed within the crust and oceans of the earth. It has been estimated that crustal rocks contain an average of some 4 g of uranium per tonne. The structure of the uranium atom is unstable; emission of subatomic particles from the nucleus causes uranium to change or decay into a new element, thorium.

Radon concentrations in Algerian oil and gas industry

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2003
Concentrations of 222Rn in produced water, crude oil, natural gas (NG) and natural gas liquids (NGL) in on-shore Algeria were measured using scintillation cell techniques (Lucas cells) and electret ion chamber (EIC). The first method, active, is based on the use of a Lucas-type scintillation chamber in conjunction with a portable monitor (model Pylon ...

Radon anomaly in soil gas as an earthquake precursor

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2008
The mechanical processes of earthquake preparation are always accompanied by deformations; afterwards, the complex short- or long-term precursory phenomena can appear. Anomalies of radon concentrations in soil gas are registered a few weeks or months before many earthquakes.

A PASSIVE RADON GAS DETECTOR FOR USE IN HOMES

Nuclear Tracks, 1981
Abstract A passive integrating radon gas dosemeter has been developed using electrochemically etched tracks in CR-39. The detectors will be used in a survey of 2000 or more homes in the UK. The response of the dosemeters is shown to be linear with respect to exposure. It is shown that snap-on polyethylene lids allow 222Rn to diffuse into the detector

Determination of radon in natural gas pipelines

Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry, 2015
The aim of this study was to develop the methodology for collection and analysis of radon from a natural gas pipeline. Activated charcoal was used as collection media. Two methods were designed for collecting radon gas samples from onshore and offshore production sites. For onshore sites a continuous gas sampling method from the pipeline was developed.

Student measurement of radon gas concentrations

American Journal of Physics, 1996
A sodium iodide crystal connected to a multichannel pulse height analyzer card in a microcomputer is used to detect and analyze the progeny of radon gas present in the ambient air of several buildings. Relative levels are obtained in three buildings and an attempt is made at calculating absolute levels.
