Use of Semiochemicals for the Management of the Redbay Ambrosia Beetle

open access: yesInsects, 2020
This review highlights current advances in the management of the redbay ambrosia beetle, Xyleborus glabratus, a primary vector of the pathogenic fungus, Raffaelea lauricola, that causes laurel wilt.

Impact of Essential Oils Composition and Exposure Methods on Fungal Growth and Morphology: Insights for Postharvest Management

open access: yesFuture Postharvest and Food, Volume 2, Issue 2, Page 159-173, June 2025.
This study explores the effectiveness of essential oils in controlling postharvest phytopathogenic fungi for fruits and vegetables revealing how essential oils could offer sustainable solutions for reducing fungal contamination. By testing various oils in two methods, we identify Origanum vulgare, Syzygium aromaticum, and Cymbopogon citratus as potent ...

North American Lauraceae: terpenoid emissions, relative attraction and boring preferences of redbay ambrosia beetle, Xyleborus glabratus (coleoptera: curculionidae: scolytinae). [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The invasive redbay ambrosia beetle, Xyleborus glabratus, is the primary vector of Raffaelea lauricola, a symbiotic fungus and the etiologic agent of laurel wilt. This lethal disease has caused severe mortality of redbay (Persea borbonia) and swampbay (P.

Commodity risk assessment of debarked conifer wood chips fumigated with sulfuryl fluoride from the US

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract The European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to deliver a risk assessment on the likelihood of pest freedom from regulated EU quarantine pests, with emphasis on Bursaphelenchus xylophilus and its vectors Monochamus spp. of debarked conifer wood chips fumigated with sulfuryl fluoride as proposed by the United States (US) and

Effect of the host plant on the life history, behaviour and fungal community of a fungus‐farming ambrosia beetle

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 49, Issue 5, Page 705-718, October 2024.
We analysed the life history, behaviour and symbionts of Xyleborinus saxesenii in different host trees. The life history traits, behaviour and nutritional symbionts were not impacted by the host tree, but other fungal symbionts were. Our results show that wood‐dwelling insects do not always adapt to the locally abundant plants.

Cycloheximide-Producing Streptomyces Associated With Xyleborinus saxesenii and Xyleborus affinis Fungus-Farming Ambrosia Beetles

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Symbiotic microbes help a myriad of insects acquire nutrients. Recent work suggests that insects also frequently associate with actinobacterial symbionts that produce molecules to help defend against parasites and predators.

Fungal Community Analyses of Endophytic Fungi from Two Oak Species, Quercus mongolica and Quercus serrata, in Korea

open access: yesMycobiology, 2021
Fungal endophytes have been recorded in various plant species with a richness of diversity, and their presence plays an essential role in host plant protection against biotic and abiotic stresses. This study applied the Illumina MiSeq sequencing platform
