Synthesis of Poly(Itaconate)s With High Monomer Conversion Applying Emulsion Polymerization

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, Volume 63, Issue 6, Page 1284-1296, 15 March 2025.
Itaconic acid and its derivatives are a promising and bio‐based substitute for oil‐based polymers such as acrylates. In this study, the optimization of polymerization of itaconic acid esters is described by applying emulsion polymerization leading to high reaction conversions and low residual monomer contents. ABSTRACT Itaconic acid and its derivatives

Copolymer Synthesis of N‐Vinylacetamide and 2‐Methylene‐1,3‐Dioxepane Provides a New Degradable Polymer

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, Volume 63, Issue 6, Page 1306-1318, 15 March 2025.
ABSTRACT N‐vinylamides, especially noncyclic N‐vinylacetamide (NVA), have been used in various applications such as biomaterials, surfactants, and hydrogels. However, their potential to copolymerize with cyclic ketene acetal (CKA) to create degradable polymers is underexplored.

Cationic‐Hydrophilic Di‐Block Copolymers: Surface‐Shielded Vectors for Gene Delivery

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, Volume 63, Issue 6, Page 1419-1432, 15 March 2025.
This study develops synthetic polycationic di‐block carriers for nucleic acid (NA) delivery in gene therapy. Consisting of a cationic block and a hydrophilic block, these carriers efficiently form complexes with NAs and shield them with a protective bioinert layer, enhancing stability during circulation in the bloodstream while reducing undesirable ...

D‐Optimal Design for Enzymatic Ring‐Opening Polymerization of ε‐Caprolactone: Toward Sustainable Polyester Synthesis Using Biobased Solvents

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
A D‐optimal design of experiments maps the influence of key reaction parameters on enzymatic ε‐caprolactone polymerization. Thus linking multivariate conditions to conversion, molar mass characteristics, and by‐product formation, whilst demonstrating that biobased solvents offer viable, sustainable media for polyester synthesis.

Synthesis and Evaluation of Novel Thermoplastic Elastomers via Anionic Polymerization of Bio‐Based α‐Methyl‐p‐Methylstyrene

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Bio‐based PAMMS‐PI‐PAMMS triblock copolymers prepared via sequential anionic polymerization display widely tunable tensile behavior. Variation of the block composition enables systematic control of strength and extensibility, offering a sustainable platform for thermoplastic elastomers. ABSTRACT In this study, we examined novel thermoplastic elastomers
