Short ragweeds is highly cross-reactive with other ragweeds

Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, 2015
The most widespread ragweed (Ambrosia) species in North America are short ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia; Amb a), giant ragweed (Ambrosia trifida; Amb t), and western ragweed (Ambrosia psilostachya; Amb p). Varied geographic distributions of ragweed species raise questions regarding the need for ragweed species-specific allergen immunotherapy. To ...

RAGWEED DERMATITIS

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1934
Sensitivity to the ragweeds (Ambrosiaceae) is generally regarded in terms of the well known hay fever and asthma, which occur so commonly in the United States during the season of pollination in the late summer and autumn months. Occasional cases have been reported, however, of a recurring, eczematous eruption in this same season, in the form of ...

Operational control on environmental safety of potentially toxic elements during thermal conversion of metal-accumulator invasive ragweed to biochar

Journal of Cleaner Production, 2018
Ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia L.), a metal-accumulator invasive species, was pyrolyzed under a range of pyrolytic conditions to investigate their influence on immobilization and environmental safety of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) in the produced

Polymerized Ragweed Antigen E

The Journal of Immunology, 1974
Abstract The antigenic characteristics of three preparations of ragweed (RW) antigen E were studied in rabbits. The preparations consisted of the monomeric form, (m.w. 37,800); a lower molecular weight polymer (m.w. 0.2 to 4 million) and a higher molecular weight polymer (m.w. 4 to 20 million).

Patterns in Google Trends Terms Reporting Rhinitis and Ragweed Pollen Season in Ukraine

International Archives of Allergy and Immunology, 2019
Background: Google Trends (GT) may represent a new approach to assessing pollen allergy. However, the development of a pan-European sentinel network has raised a problem of translating terms in different languages.

Phosphatases of ragweed pollen

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1951
Abstract 1. 1. Phosphoric ester-splitting enzymes have been obtained from defatted ragweed pollen by extraction with 0.25% sodium carbonate. The crude extract showed the presence of three optima in the pH-activity curve. After fractionation, a preparation showing two optima, one at pH 5.6 and another smaller one at 4.2 was obstained. 2.

Localization of Ragweed Antigens in the Intact Ragweed Pollen Grain

International Archives of Allergy and Immunology, 1972
A study was done to localize the soluble antigens on the intact ragweed pollen grains. For this purpose, ragweed pollen grains were paraffin embedded, sectioned and stained with FITC-conjugated antisera to the various ragweed antigens. The results demonstrate that the major water-soluble antigens, WSR, antigen E and RA3 are localized to the <i> ...

RAGWEED DERMATITIS

Archives of Dermatology and Syphilology, 1933
The results of our experiments in two cases of ragweed dermatitis seem to cast some light on the nature of the excitants in ragweed hay fever and asthma and in the dermatitis caused by ragweed. Further, the results of attempts at passive transference in the two cases seem to bring out clearly in which cases one may expect to find reagins and in which ...

Measurement of circulating ragweed antigen

Journal of Allergy, 1945
Abstract 1.1. Ragweed antigen in the sera of hay fever patients has been demonstrated by the precipitin test and roughly quantitated in terms of volume of precipitate. 2.2. A trend was observed wherein the amount of precipitate was roughly proportionate to the severity of symptoms. 3.3.
