The Potential of Ultrasonic Surface Waves for Rail Inspection

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2005
Rail inspection using ultrasonic surface waves could provide a more reliable and efficient alternative to conventional ultrasound for the detection of surface cracks. This paper examines the basic properties of such surface waves at frequencies around 250 kHz.

Analysis of Rail Potential with the Influence of Multi-node Power Distribution in Urban Rail Power Supply System

IECON 2019 - 45th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2019
At present, abnormal rise of rail potential in DC traction power supply system of urban rail transit has become a difficult problem in line safety. The mechanism and distribution of abnormal rail potential need to be clarified. In the traditional analysis method, the mode that single train operating in single power supply section is far from the mode ...

The potential of rail as an environmental solution: Setting the agenda

Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice, 1994
Rail is often advanced as an environmentally superior alternative to road transportation. A market segmentation analysis shows rail has a relative advantage in regular long distance trips to high density nodes. Yet, such trips are a limited and shrinking share of the total transport market.

Evaluating the potential benefits of a rail traffic movement planning algorithm

Proceedings of the 31st conference on Winter simulation Simulation---a bridge to the future - WSC '99, 1999
Railroads have large investments in capital items such as track, trains and terminals. Optimizing the use of their resources has the potential of enormous payback. Precision Train Control/sup TM/ (PTC) is an effort to optimize the flow of trains on the railroad line in order to increase the return on capital.

Single train movement modelling and simulation with rail potential consideration

2016 IEEE/SICE International Symposium on System Integration (SII), 2016
In general, the study of the train movement simulation begins with learning a simple single-train movement modelling. To be more realistic and more complete, the model should be able to calculate the profile of rail potential while a train is moving since rail potential plays an important role in the design of electrified railway service and is not ...

Research on Technical Measure for Rail Potential Reduction

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
The super-high potentials of Metro rail will have a crucial influence on Metro’s safe operation, personal safety and the corrosion of underground metal structures. This paper analyzes the principle of the generation for rail potentials and the influencing factors of the high and low Metro potentials.

Rail-to-Earth Resistance Assessment: A Medium Capacity Transit System with Continuous Negative Rails by Potential Measurement

IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine, 2016
The Brown Line of the Taipei Rapid Transit System is the only rubber-tire medium capacity line in the system. The first phase of its construction was launched in 1988, and revenue service began in 1996. It was frequently referred to as the Muzha Line, as the route runs from the Taipei Zoo in the southeast suburb of Muzha to the vicinity of the Taipei ...

Does growth follow the rail? The potential impact of high-speed rail on the economic geography of China

Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice, 2018
Abstract The rapidly expanding high-speed rail (HSR) network in China has produced and will continue to produce a progressive contraction of space by significantly shortening the rail travel time among major Chinese cities. Does economic growth follow the extension of HSR as a result of improved accessibility?
