Identification and Morphological Variation of an Invasive Parasite in Introduced and Native Lizards [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Exotic species can threaten biodiversity by introducing parasites to native hosts. Thus, it is critical to identify if the same parasite species is infecting both native and exotic hosts.

A SEM study of the reindeer sinus worm (Linguatula arctica) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Pentastomids are a group of peculiar parasitic arthropods, often referred to as tongue worms due to the resemblance of some species to a tongue. Linguatula arctica is the sinus worm of the reindeer (Rangifer tarandus), being the only pentastomid to have ...

Helminths and Pentastomida of two synanthropic gecko lizards, Hemidactylus mabouia and Phyllopezus pollicaris, in an urban area in Northeastern Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
Helminths and pentastomids were examined in exotic Hemidactylus mabouia and native Phyllopezus pollicaris lizards, living synanthropically in an urban area in the municipality of Crato, Ceará state, northeastern Brazil.

Helminths and pentastomes from preserved puff adder (Bitis arietans) specimens in reptile collections of South African museums [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Apart from isolated surveys, there is a lack of information regarding the parasite fauna of serpents (snakes) in South Africa. In an attempt to contribute to the knowledge, the dissertation focusses on the identification of a total of 227 helminth and 3 ...

The distribution of cephalic sense organs in four species ofRaillietiella(Pentastomida: Cephalobaenida)

open access: yesParasitology, 1985
Scanning electron microscope observations of the frontal papillae and peribuccal cuticle of four species of raillietiellid pentastomids have shown an array of sensilla which are grouped in characteristic patterns. The arrangement of sensilla is remarkably uniform within the species studied and it cannot be used in specific diagnosis. Possible functions

Associations of Mitochondria with Desmosome-Like Structures in the Oocytes of Raillietiella aegypti (Pentastomida, Cephalobaenida)

open access: yesZeitschrift für Naturforschung C, 1985
Abstract The oocytes of the cephalobaenid Pentastomid Raillietiella aegypti were studied by electron microscopy. A prominent feature of vitellogenic oocytes are numerous spherical, oval and elongated mitochondria. Some of these are shown with desmosome-like structures.

Patterns of Parasite Infection Dynamics during a Biological Invasion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Biological invasions may impact native ecosystems by affecting host-parasite dynamics. Introduced species can harbor parasites transported from their native range and these parasites can spillover to infect native taxa, often with deleterious effects ...
