Importance of no‐rain measurements on the comparison of radar and rain gauge rain rate
Hydrological Processes, 2009AbstractThis study evaluated four possible cases of comparing radar and rain gauge rain rate for the detection of mean‐field bias. These four cases, or detection designs, consider in this study are: (1) design 1‐uses all the data sets available, including zero radar rain rate and zero rain gauge rain rate, (2) design 2—uses the data sets of positive ...

Rain and Snow Gauge Comparisons
Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences, 1974The performance of four types of rain gauges and three methods of measuring snow-fall were compared over a 10 year period. Under the conditions of the test the United States Weather Bureau's (now National Weather Service, NOAA) standard precipitation gauge proved most reliable for measuring rain at all intensities, whereas the Meteorological Service ...

An instrument recording intensity of rainfall against time on a daily chart is described. The rain is successively collected in one of three receivers over a period of 1 min.; floats in these receivers operate a common pen arm. Performance figures are given; the instrument is sensitive to 0.02 in of rain per hour.

Dependence of Rain-Rate Distribution on Rain-Gauge Integration Time
Bell System Technical Journal, 1976An important problem in designing terrestrial and earth-satellite radio systems at frequencies above 10 GHz is the radio outage caused by rain attenuation. Since rain-rate statistics vary significantly from year to year, long-term rain-rate distributions are needed in radio path engineering to meet a given reliability objective. This paper and Ref.

Two newly developed automatic rain-gauges, in which the syphoning principle is applied, are described; one is of the daily type and the other is designed to record continuously for 200 days. It is shown that errors in the syphoning device employed are insignificant.

The legacies of traumatic events are often still present in the locations of those events, even when many years have passed since the original trauma. The poems in Water From the Rain-Gauge operate in a mnemonic and contemporary space which confronts these legacies.
