Real-time prediction of rain-impacted sewage flow for on-line control of chemical dosing in sewers [PDF]

open access: yesWater Research, 2019
Chemical dosing is a commonly used strategy for mitigating sewer corrosion and odour problems caused by sulfide production. Prediction of sewage flow variation in real-time is critical for the optimization of chemical dosing to achieve cost-effective mitigation of hydrogen sulfide (H2S).

Assessing the effects of four SUDS scenarios on combined sewer overflows in Oslo, Norway: evaluating the low-impact development module of the Mike Urban model

open access: yesHydrology Research, 2020
Paved surfaces, increased precipitation intensities in addition to limited capacity in the sewer systems, cause a higher risk of combined sewer overflows (CSOs).

Application of material from used car tyres in geotechnics—an environmental impact analysis [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2020
This work begins with a literature-based discussion of the hazardous-waste problem represented by car tyres as hazardous waste, along with possible ways in which they might be utilised or managed.

“Green structures” for effective rainwater management on roads

open access: yesProduction Engineering Archives, 2022
Rainwater management is one of the important problems of cities. At very strong downpours, storm sewer systems may not capture the rainwater, which floods pavements and roadways.

Combined sewer overflows alter zooplankton communities in an urban river

open access: yesKnowledge and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems
Combined sewer systems, common worldwide, transport both ‘stormwater’ and ‘wastewater’ within a single network. Many such systems include overflows, called Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs), to prevent sewer pipes and treatment plants from being ...

The protection of urban areas from surface wastewater pollutions

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
In this paper it considered the problem of collection, treatment and discharge into waters of rain and melted wastewater. To reduce the load on the combined sewer system, there are engineering solutions collect rain and melt water for use in the ...

Predictive heuristic control: Inferring risks from heterogeneous nowcast accuracy

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2023
Urban Drainage Systems can cause ecological and public health issues by releasing untreated contaminated water into the environment. Real-time control (RTC), augmented with rainfall nowcast, can effectively reduce these pollution loads.

Scaling of Short‐Duration, Summer Rainfall Event Temporal Profiles With Warming Over Great Britain

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Temperature scaling has been used to analyse the temporal profiles of short‐duration, summer rainfall events in Great Britain, for sub‐hourly observed and convection‐permitting climate model (CPM) data. Results show an increase with dewpoint temperature of event total rainfall depth, maximum intensity, concentration and front‐loading.
