Crystal structures of PCNA1 and PCNA2 from Aeropyrum pernix: implications for a distorted heterotrimeric sliding clamp

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section F, Volume 82, Issue 6, Page 216-221, June 2026.
Crystal structures of A. pernix PCNA1 (1.60 Å resolution) and PCNA2 (2.17 Å resolution) are reported. High‐resolution analysis reveals a rare nonproline cis‐peptide bond in PCNA1 that may cause steric hindrance at the subunit interface, suggesting a distorted or symmetry‐broken heterotrimeric PCNA ring.Aeropyrum pernix is a hyperthermophilic archaeon ...

Structural analysis of the flexibility of the Ubl2 domain within the papain‐like protease of SARS‐CoV‐2

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section F, Volume 82, Issue 6, Page 222-230, June 2026.
The ubiquitin‐like domain 2 (Ubl2) of the SARS‐CoV‐2 virus is necessary for the stability and catalytic efficiency of its papain‐like protease (PLpro). Our crystallographic study reveals that the Ubl2 domain exhibits notable flexibility and can adopt a conformation that places itself away from the PLpro catalytic domain, representing a new conformation

Crystal structure of Plasmodium vivax macrophage migration inhibitory factor

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section F, Volume 82, Issue 6, Page 194-200, June 2026.
The production, crystallization and 1.8 Å resolution crystal structure of macrophage migratory inhibitory factor from P. vivax are reported.Plasmodium vivax is a major cause of malaria globally and has recently been transmitted locally in the USA. P. vivax produces homologs of host proteins, including cytokines such as macrophage migration inhibitory ...

Interplay of Diet, Heat Stress, and the Microbiome Shapes Health and Escape Behaviour in Amphibian Larvae

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 6, June 2026.
Diet and temperature jointly shape the gut microbiome and host performance in amphibian larvae. In a multifactorial experiment with Rana temporaria, diet quality, rearing temperature, and heatwave exposure altered microbial communities and predicted metabolic pathways, while host health remained largely stable, suggesting microbiome plasticity and ...

When Is a Wrong Answer Right?: Mediating Indigenous Language Revitalization at Taiwan Indigenous Television

open access: yesAmerican Anthropologist, Volume 128, Issue 2, Page 259-271, June 2026.
ABSTRACT This article follows producers of Kai Language Heroes, the first Indigenous language game show in the world, as they adapted the genre for language revitalization. Kai Language Heroes is one of many original programs at Taiwan Indigenous Television (TITV), a public broadcaster that serves Taiwan's diverse Austronesian‐speaking peoples. I argue
