Effects of Different SNP Calling and Sequence Mapping Choices on the Inference of Genetic Architecture Underlying Migration Tendency

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
We re‐analysed RAD‐Seq data from brown trout using a conspecific reference genome and alternative SNP pipelines. Population structure was robust across methods, but using the brown trout reference improved detection of biologically relevant outlier SNPs. ABSTRACT Genome‐wide association studies with identification of biologically relevant genes rely on

Environmental and Protection Effects of Shark‐Companion Associations Across Three Ocean Basins

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Companion species frequently associate with large marine hosts, yet the ecological drivers of these relationships remain poorly understood. Using a global dataset of midwater BRUVS deployments, we modelled the presence and abundance of shark‐companion associations across seven shark species and three ocean basins.

Hydrodynamic and ecological effects of engineered logjams: Insights from field observations

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 6, June 2026.
Drone imaging, LSPIV and electrofishing data quantified restoration effects of engineered logjam at the Emme River (Switzerland). Placement and discharge shaped flow: Side jams created longer wakes, centre jams stronger mixing; and lower discharge intensified gap velocities, whereas wake length remained stable.

Evaluation of the Effects of Wax Films Formulated With Thyme and Laurel Essential Oils on Chemical and Microbiological Quality Characteristics of Rainbow Trout Fillets During Storage

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
This graphical abstract illustrates the superior preservative effects of essential oil‐enriched beeswax coatings on rainbow trout fillets compared to conventional methods. The application of these natural active coatings, particularly with 4% laurel essential oil, significantly slowed biochemical spoilage, improved textural attributes, and preserved ...

Gendered and nongendered language in genetic counseling

open access: yesJournal of Genetic Counseling, Volume 35, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract Language is essential to genetic counseling. Genetic counselors use language to accurately communicate complex medical phenomena and support patients' understanding and wellbeing. This qualitative descriptive study explored how practicing genetic counselors used gendered and non‐gendered language in patient interactions and the motivations ...
