The ultrahard teeth of mollusks that feed on rocky substrates contain a wear‐resistant coating on their surfaces consisting of densely packed mesocrystalline magnetic nanoparticles within an organic matrix. These coatings display significant hardness and toughness through their highly controlled mesocrystalline architectures.

Response of Dynamic Changes in Groundwater Level in Fractured Rock Layers to Rainfall [PDF]
[Objectives] Large-scale urban underground space development has led to numerous anti-floating problems. Groundwater level is a key parameter in the anti-floating design of underground structures, but it is inherently dynamic and influenced by various ...

Fluorine‐Free Soft Nanocomposites for High‐Speed Liquid Impact Repellence
Fluorine‐free soft nanocomposite coatings are developed using silicone oil‐mediated mechanical‐stiffness control, enabling ‘dry’ liquid‐repellent surfaces that resist high‐speed water jet impacts up to ∼60 m/s. By tuning nanoparticle loading and oil content, the coatings also achieve >90% optical transparency, amphiphobicity with impact resistance to ...

Response of Soil and Water Loss to Land Use and Precipitation Changes on the Loess Plateau
[Objective] In order to clarify the law of sediment yield and sediment loss of different land use types under different rainfall types, and to evaluate the benefit of sediment reduction of different land use types under different rainfall types. [Methods]

VARIwise: a general-purpose adaptive control simulation framework for spatially and temporally varied irrigation at sub-field scale [PDF]
Irrigation control strategies may be used to improve the site-specific irrigation of cotton via lateral move and centre pivot irrigation machines. A simulation framework ‘VARIwise’ has been created to aid the development, evaluation and management of ...

Rainfall–runoff response and event-based runoff coefficients in a humid area (northwest Spain) [PDF]
Abstract The hydrological response of a small agroforestry catchment in northwest Spain (Corbeira catchment, 16 km2) is analysed, with particular focus on rainfall events. Fifty-four rainfall–runoff events, from December 2004 to September 2007, were used to analyse the principal hydrological patterns and show which factors best explain the hydrological
