Intracrystalline Void‐Mediated Toughening of Brittle Crystals in Quail Eggshells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In quail eggshells, the high density and disordered arrangement of intracrystalline voids inhibit lattice cleavage, suppress long‐range crack propagation, and promote deformation twinning and quasi‐plasticity, serving as an essential toughening motif. We show that these voids remain within a narrow subcritical size range and therefore predominantly do ...

Comparative evaluation of modern precipitation datasets for extreme rainfall events over the Contiguous United States

open access: yesShuili Shuiyun Gongcheng Xuebao
This study presents a comprehensive evaluation of three modern precipitation datasets—the NOAA’s gauge-corrected Multi-Radar Multi-Sensor (MRMS) product, the final run of NASA’s Integrated Multi-satellite Retrievals for GPM (IMERG-Final), and the NCAR ...

Local generalised method of moments: an application to point process-based rainfall models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Long series of simulated rainfall are required at point locations for a range of applications, including hydrological studies. Clustered point process-based rainfall models have been used for generating such simulations for many decades.

Moisture‐Adaptive Triboelectric Materials and Platforms: Design Strategies, Performance Enhancement, and Applications in Energy Harvesting and Wearable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review summarizes moisture‐adaptive strategies that enable triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) to operate across diverse moisture conditions. It examines moisture‐management methods, including exclusion, directional transport, removal, and utilization, with charge‐regulation approaches based on interfacial, dielectric, and structural engineering.

Parameter Investigation for Stamp Manufacturing of Complex 3D Geometries Using Nanoimprint Lithography

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Nanoimprint lithography can replicate complex 3D microstructures with undercuts using single‐layer polymer stamps of different elasticities. By combining experiments and simulations, T‐shaped geometries and suitable undercut radii were identified that minimize stress and defects during demolding.

Recent trends in daily rainfall extremes over Montenegro (1951–2010) [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2015
More intense rainfall may cause a range of negative impacts upon society and the environment. In this study we analysed trends in extreme ETCCDI (Expert Team on Climate Change Detection and Indices) rainfall indices in Montenegro for the period between ...

Technical Feasibility Study of Autonomous Field Robot‐Based on‐the‐go Assessment of Soil Nutrients Using Ion‐Sensitive Field‐Effect Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Autonomous field robots equipped with ISFET‐based sensors enable rapid, spatially resolved soil nutrient analysis directly in the field. An automated system based on the BoniRob platform is presented for standardized on‐site extraction and measurement of key macronutrients and soil pH.
