Rainfall Infiltration into Unsaturated Soil

2015
As a tropical country, Malaysia is in the region of residual unsaturated soil. The prolonged and high intensity of rainfall will affect the parameters such as pore water pressure and moisture content of soil. This paper presents the experimental test result of rain water infiltration into soil column for unsaturated soil.

Derivation of equations for rainfall infiltration

Journal of Hydrology, 1976
Abstract Formulae were derived for prediction of ponding time and cumulative infiltration following ponding under the influence of rainfall. The derivations do not assume immediate saturation at the surface nor a piston displacement of air by water; they include the viscous flow of air.

Physical simulation of urban rainfall infiltration

Journal of China University of Mining and Technology, 2008
Abstract To meet the demand of urban rainwater integrated management, we designed and complemented a physical simulation experimental system of urban rainfall infiltration regulation parameters. We discuss the feasibility of quantitative regulations of urban underlying surface rainfall infiltration conditions and a practical application of a ...

An analytical model for simulating the rainfall-interception-infiltration-runoff process with non-uniform rainfall

Journal of Environmental Management, 2023
The rainfall runoff process is a critical factor in determining the transport of surface materials. Simulating the surface runoff process is fundamental to accurately characterize soil erosion and soil nutrient loss. This research aims to develop a comprehensive simulation model for rainfall-interception-infiltration-runoff under vegetation cover ...

Analysis of slopestability under the rainfall infiltration

2012 2nd International Conference on Consumer Electronics, Communications and Networks (CECNet), 2012
The process of water distribution in slope is researched with the SWMS_2D model. The strength reduction of FLAC2D, which is based on unsaturated soil shear strength theory, is used to analysis slope stability. An example of a slope of road is simulated.

INFILTRATION RATE AS RELATED TO RAINFALL ENERGY

Canadian Journal of Soil Science, 1967
Infiltration rate with respect to rainfall energy was determined on a Sceptre clay, Haverhill loam and Hatton fine sandy loam. The infiltration rate of saturated Sceptre clay dropped from 24.0 to 0.6 cm per hour with an application of 2.0 cm of simulated rain.

On the Rainfall Infiltration Through a Soil Medium

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1989
A vertical long soil column subject to rainfall filtrating through the upper end of the column has been considered. The mathematical formulation of this physical model, based on the theory of fluid flows in a nonsaturated porous medium, leads to a one-phase, nonlinear parabolic free boundary problem, the free boundary being the wetting front.

Subgrade Stability Analysis with Rainfall Infiltration

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
Based on limit equilibrium method, the subgrade stability formula under rainfall infiltration is derived and the influence of matric suction on subgrade stability is analyzed using the safety coefficient formula. What’s more, the affection of rainfall intensity, duration and soil permeability on subgrade stability is studied and the influences is ...

Rainfall Intensity-Dependent Infiltration Rates on Rangeland Rainfall Simulator Plots

Transactions of the ASABE, 2008
Most implementations of infiltration equations with rainfall-runoff models use a hydraulic conductivity parameter that is constant for a given rainfall event. However, plot data from rainfall simulator experiments and natural rainfall events have shown that infiltration rates can increase with increasing rainfall rate instead of decreasing with time or
