Spatial distribution characteristics of splashing rainfall caused by nappe flow impingement on a plunge pool

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2023
Splashing is the main atomization source for a jet impinging on a liquid layer. Increased understanding of splashing rainfall characteristics can help to reduce the hazard of flood discharge atomization in hydraulic engineering.

Analysis of Urban Flood Inundation Patterns According to Rainfall Intensity Using a Rainfall Simulator in the Sadang Area of South Korea

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
An urban flood in the Sadang area located in South Korea was reproduced using a rainfall simulator. The rainfall simulator was developed to be able to demonstrate the rainfall intensity in range of 80−200 mm/h, and the artificial rainfall was ...

Effects of rainfall patterns on runoff and soil erosion in field plots

open access: yesInternational Soil and Water Conservation Research, 2015
Soil erosion processes during a storm are strongly affected by intra-storm variations in rainfall characteristics. Four storm patterns, each with a different rainfall intensity variation were separated.

Inverse Identification of Energy‐Dependent Laser Absorptivity in NiTi Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion via Calibrated Melt Pool Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined experimental–computational framework identifies energy‐dependent laser absorptivity for NiTi in laser powder‐bed fusion, applicable to conduction and transition modes. Single‐track experiments and thermofluid smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations are coupled through inverse analysis of melt pool geometry.

Intensity of Rainfall and Severity of Melioidosis, Australia

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2003
In a 12-year prospective study of 318 culture-confirmed cases of melioidosis from the Top End of the Northern Territory of Australia, rainfall data for individual patient locations were correlated with patient risk factors, clinical parameters, and outcomes.

Regulated Ion‐Diffusion Hydrogels for Subtle and Multimodal Temperature‐Strain Sensing in Wound Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A soft, dual‐channel hydrogel patch enables simultaneous detection of wound temperature and strain by integrating ion‐diffusion‐mediated thermoelectric and resistive sensing. The conformal design maintains stable performance during motion, capturing subtle inflammatory and mechanical changes for continuous wound monitoring.

Exploring the impact of rainfall intensity on the attenuation-rainfall relationship

open access: yesJournal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer
The attenuation of electromagnetic waves due to rainfall is a critical factor in radar and telecommunication systems, particularly in frequency bands above 10 GHz, which is increasingly utilised for data transfer. This study addresses the gaps in understanding how these attenuation effects vary across different rainfall intensities and Drop Size ...
