Linking climate change, rice yield, and migration: the Philippine experience [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This study tests the hypothesis that climate change, through its rice productivity impacts, induces out-migration in the Philippines. Results show that climate change effects such as increasing night time temperature and extreme rainfall pattern, by way ...

An Increasing Misalignment Between Crop Distribution and Environmental Resources Under Climate Change in China

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Climate change reshapes the spatial alignment between crop production and environmental resources. Using multi‐source data and a crop model, integrated climatic, water, and soil endowments for maize and wheat are quantified and compared with harvest distributions.

Interaction of the westerlies with the Tibetan Plateau in determining the Mei-Yu termination [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
This study explores how the termination of the mei-yu is dynamically linked to the westerlies impinging on the Tibetan Plateau. It is found that the mei-yu stage terminates when the maximum upper-tropospheric westerlies shift beyond the northern edge of ...

Tailored Organogel Systems for Optimized Pesticide Delivery: Mechanistic Insights and Agricultural Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Utilizing molecular engineering for network design, three pesticide‐loaded organogels (PLOs) carriers exhibiting varying degrees of flexibility were prepared. The mechanical properties of these carriers, tunable via their network molecular structures, enhance their structural adaptability and retention stability at biological interfaces, thereby ...

Global Nitrogen Deposition Promotes Carbon Sink Formation in Terrestrial Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nitrogen deposition alleviates ecosystem N limitation and enhances carbon sinks. Using 829 observations, we show 36% of deposited N is retained globally (39.15 Tg N yr−1), with distinct NHx and NOy contributions. This retention drives a terrestrial C sink of 0.88 Pg C yr−1 (25.48%), highlighting the importance of pool‐specific C:N stoichiometry ...

Study on the Influence of Rainfall Patterns on the Stability of Reinforced Soil Gabion Retaining Walls

open access: yesBuildings
Rainfall is recognised as one of the major external factors affecting the stability of retaining walls. The magnitude of rainfall directly influences the overall stability of retaining walls, while rainfall patterns alter the infiltration process and the
