Recent African rainfall patterns

Nature, 1975
We present the results of a pilot study aimed at creating a more concrete basis for discussion of the variability in both space and time of rainfall in the Sahel.

European rainfall patterns

Journal of Climatology, 1985
AbstractThis analysis suggests substantial coherence of rainfall data from Northern Europe, in a region from England to eastern Germany. Within this entire area, there appears to be a long‐term fluctuation in rainfall with a period of about 16 years. Further south, from Switzerland into northern Italy, a different long‐term fluctuation of about 20‐22 ...

Rainfall patterns in India

Journal of Climatology, 1986
AbstractIndian rainfall figures from World Weather Records have been subjected to filter analysis and the results suggest substantial coherence of data for central and north‐west India. The analysis indicates that there is a long‐term fluctuation in rainfall of period c. 22 years—possibly linked to the double sunspot cycle—and another of period c.

Rainfall patterns in the eastern United States

Climatic Change, 1982
Rainfall figures from World Weather Records, for towns west of the Mississippi in the United States, have been subjected to filter analysis. Four filters have been used, and the rainfall patterns obtained suggest substantial coherence of the data throughout much of the entire area.

A simple model for estimating changes in rainfall erosivity caused by variations in rainfall patterns

Environmental Research, 2018
A major challenge when coupling soil loss models with precipitation forecasts from Global Circulation Models (GCMs) is that their time resolutions do not generally agree. Precipitation forecasts from GCM must be scaled down; however, the distribution of the rainfall intensity, which can affect soil loss as much as precipitation amounts, is usually not ...

The patterns of rainfall in the Serengeti Ecosystem, Tanzania

African Journal of Ecology, 1975
SummaryThis paper presents a description of the temporal and spatial distribution of rainfall within the Serengeti Ecosystem, Tanzania. Ecosystem and Regional patterns are discussed with respect to synoptic processes, vegetation zonation, phases of primary production and the distribution and migrations of large mammals.

A QUANTITATIVE METHOD FOR THE PREDICTION OF RAINFALL PATTERNS

Journal of Meteorology, 1952
Abstract Under certain assumptions, the vertical motion in the low and middle troposphere is directed upward in regions where the relative vorticity decreases downstream along the streamlines at 300 millibars, and inverse. Computations covering 16 observed charts show that, in general, at least some rainfall reaches the ground where upward motion ...

Rainfall Temporal Patterns for Design Floods

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1975
The rainfalls used in the practical estimation of design floods are generally based on frequency-duration relationships derived from recorded intense burst of rainfall of various durations rather than from complete storms. These recorded intense bursts are therefore used in the derivation of the temporal patterns.

Analysis of Hawaiian diurnal rainfall patterns

Theoretical and Applied Climatology, 2004
We analyzed hourly precipitation data over the period 1965–1998 for 133 stations located throughout the Hawaiian Islands and found distinctive diurnal cycles in the amount and frequency of the rainfall. The diurnal signals were generally strongest on the island of Hawaii and more pronounced in the summer than in the winter.

Rainfall and drought patterns in Jordan

2021
RAINFALL AND DROUGHT PATTERNS IN JORDAN SUMMARY The study of water resources such as rainfall is considered to be of great importance for Jordan. The great environmental challenge that Jordan faces today is the scarcity of water. Water resources in Jordan mainly depend on rainfall which is subject to great variability.
