An Alternative to PCA for Estimating Dominant Patterns of Climate Variability and Extremes, with Application to U.S. and China Seasonal Rainfall

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2020
Floods and droughts are driven, in part, by spatial patterns of extreme rainfall. Heat waves are driven by spatial patterns of extreme temperature. It is therefore of interest to design statistical methodologies that allow the rapid identification of ...

Mechanisms producing different precipitation patterns over north‐eastern Italy: insights from HyMeX‐SOP1 and previous events [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
During the first HyMeX Special Observation Period (SOP1) field campaign, the target site of north‐eastern Italy (NEI) experienced a large amount of precipitation, locally exceeding the climatological values and distributed among several heavy‐rainfall ...

Identifying monthly rainfall erosivity patterns using hourly rainfall data across India [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
Abstract Rainfall erosivity is a key dynamic factor of water erosion estimation, with a significant spatial and temporal variation. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the spatial patterns and monthly distribution of rainfall erosivity across India, using data from 261 hourly and 2,525 monthly rainfall stations covering the period

Metabolic Regulation of Dimethylsulfoniopropionate Cleavage and Dimethyl Sulfide Production in Halomonas sp. D47

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) is a major marine organosulfur compound central to climate‐relevant dimethyl sulfide (DMS) production. In Halomonas sp. D47, DMSP catabolism is revealed to be coordinated by two transcriptional regulators, AcuR and AcuZ, which control gene expression by sensing DMSP and its metabolites.
