On the Threshold Method for Rainfall Estimation: Choosing the Optimal Threshold Level
Journal of the American Statistical Association, 1991Abstract Real data experiments show that, for large areas, the area average rain rate and the fraction of the area covered by rain rate above a fixed threshold are highly correlated. For the right choice of the threshold level the correlation can easily exceed 95% and may even reach 99%.

Comparison of methodologies for flood rainfall thresholds estimation
Natural Hazards, 2014A flood warning system based on rainfall thresholds makes it possible to issue alarms via an off-line approach. This technique is useful for mitigating the effects of flooding in small-to-medium-sized basins characterized by an extremely rapid response to rainfall.

Probabilistic rainfall thresholds for shallow landslide triggering
2010We present probabilistic rainfall thresholds for shallow landslides triggering developed by using the Iverson’s (2000) physically based model. These are applied to a 180 km2 area in Northern Italy. We apply a spatially-distributed version of the Iverson’s (2000) model, using a 5x5 m DEM. To account for the uncertainty about the model parameters, we use
