Rainfed Farming Systems in the USA
2011This chapter describes characteristics of four major rainfed farming regions and systems in the USA: Great Plains wheat-sorghum-cattle; midwestern corn-soybean-hogs, southern cotton-peanut-poultry, and coastal diversified crops-dairy. Watershed development for rainfed areas
2011Land, water, and vegetation are the natural resources, which provide food, feed, fiber, and fuel needs for the survival of human beings. However, the growing biotic pressure and overexploitation of the natural resources are leading to their accelerated degradation, resulting in reduced productivity.

Cyst nematodes in rainfed rice
1998The cyst nematode, Heterodera sacchari, is emerging as a potentially serious pathogen of rice in West Africa, where it is widespread. Cropping practices regionally are becoming more intensified in response to consumer demands. The effects of this change on the pest potential of H. sacchari has been studied at WARDA.

Phenology in rainfed lowland rice
Field Crops Research, 1999This paper reviews the factors determining flowering time and phenology requirement in rainfed lowland rice. Recent developments in understanding of the temperature and photoperiod effects on flowering time of rice resulted in phenology models that can predict flowering time accurately in the irrigated field.

History of rainfed agriculture in Turkey
1997Turkey, like most other Mediterranean countries, is an arid and semi-arid country. Turkey is also experiencing a population boom. This increase in population has led people to boost agricultural production by cultivating marginal land. In fact, until 1970, increases in food crop production were caused mostly by increases in the area of land that was ...
