На основании строения неврокраниума и скапулокоракоида подтверждается принадлежность ската Шунтова к роду Bathyraja. Наличие единственного эндемичного вида рода Bathyraja в изолированном большими глубинами Австрало-Новозеландском регионе свидетельствует о его неавтохтонном происхождении и позволяет сделать предположение о миграции B.
