Zoogeography and relationships of Australasian skates (Chondrichthyes: Rajidae)

Journal of Biogeography, 2002
AbstractAim  To investigate distributional patterns and derivation of skates in the Australasian realm.Location  Australasia. Methods  Genus‐group skate taxa were defined for this region for the first time and new systematic information, as well as bathymetric and geographical data, used to identify distribution patterns. Results  The extant skate fauna ...

Identification of spinal electromotoneurons in the rayRaja clavata (Rajidae)

Neuroscience, 1992
Retrograde transport of horseradish peroxidase injected ipsilaterally in several parts of the electric organ and light microscopy were employed to study motoneurons and electromotoneurons of the spinal cord in the weakly electric ray Raja clavata (Rajidae).

Oviducal gland microstructure of Raja miraletus and Dipturus oxyrinchus (Elasmobranchii, Rajidae).

Journal of morphology, 2015
We studied the morphology and histology of the oviducal gland (OG) in the brown ray (Raja miraletus) and the long-nosed skate (Dipturus oxyrinchus) to understand its functional role in the reproductive strategy of these species. The external morphology of the gland was similar in both species, with lateral extensions like those found in other members ...

Complete mitochondrial genome of the mottled skate: Raja pulchra (Rajiformes, Rajidae)

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2014
The complete sequence of mitochondrial DNA of a mottled skate, Raja pulchra was sequenced as being circular molecules of 16,907 bp including 2 rRNA, 22 tRNA, 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), and an AT-rich control region. The organization of the PCGs is the same as those found in other Rajidae species.

Phylogeography and population structure of thornback rays (Raja clavata L., Rajidae)

Molecular Ecology, 2006
AbstractThe phylogeography of thornback rays (Raja clavata) was assessed from European waters, using five nuclear microsatellite loci and mitochondrial cytochome b sequences. Strong regional differentiation was found between the Mediterranean basin, the Azores and the European continental shelf. Allelic and haplotype diversities were high in Portuguese

Complete mitochondrial genome of the Yellownose skate: Zearaja chilensis (Rajiformes, Rajidae)

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2014
The complete sequence of mitochondrial DNA of a Yellownose skate, Zearaja chilensis was determined for the first time. It is 16,909 bp in length covering 2 rRNA, 22 tRNA and 13 protein coding genes with the identical gene order and structure as those of other Rajidae species. The nucleotide of L-strand is composed of low G (14.3%), and slightly high A +
