Methods for the Taxonomic Study and Description of Skates (Rajidae)
Copeia, 1968Recent studies show the need for defined methods of systematically studying and describing skates. Disc width is proposed as the basis for proportional measurements of various parts of the disc, tail, fins, and head; of distances between certain spines; and of dimensions of ocellus.

The reproduction of longnosed skate, Dipturus oxyrinchus (Elasmobranchik Rajidae) was studied using 334 specimens from Sardinian waters. Total length of females ranged from 130 to 1155 mm and of males ranged from 154 to 995 mm. The analysis of the monthly distribution of maturity. stages shows that this species has a long spawning period.

Step by step: the unprecedented evolutionary history of family Rajidae
2019Among skates, Rajidae represents one of the most enigmatic family of cartilaginous fish whose bio- ecological traits contributed to an extraordinary evolutionary success in terms of species richness and endemism. Past and present taxonomic conflicts and species misidentifications are linked to their extraordinary level of morphological stasis.

The reproductive biology of Raja brachyura (Chondrichthyes: Rajidae) in Sardinian waters was analysed. A total of 839 specimens (431 males and 408 females) were collected at depth of 30-175 m in 2005-2009. Females ranged from 131 to 1055 mm in Total Length and males from 156 to 965 mm.
