Abstract In 1969, John Ford Fishback proposed a solution for the interstellar ramjet with magnetic scooping. With the exception of two papers published in the early 1970s, this model has not been revisited up to now for viability. Here, we analyse Fishback’s axial scoop field configuration.

A Preliminary Research on Combustion Characteristics of a Novel‐Type Scramjet Combustor
In this work, a new configuration of strut‐based scramjet is proposed, and a series of simulations are conducted to investigate its possibility of practical application. The simulation results are verified via the classical DLR ramjet and an experiment conducted on the connected pipe facility.

Effect of tangential swirl air inlet angle on the combustion efficiency of a hybrid powder-solid ramjet [PDF]
A new ramjet configuration using powder and solid fuel as propellant is investigated, namely, hybrid powder-solid ramjet (HPSR). Boron particles were used as the powder in this study.

Numerical Simulation of Single‐Mode 3D Rayleigh‐Taylor Instability
Rayleigh‐Taylor instability (RTI) is analyzed theoretically by Taylor, and 2‐dimensional experimental results are obtained by Lewis in 1950. Over the 72 years, several experiments and theories are developed with the shock‐driven Ritchmyer‐Meshkov instability (RMI) and the shear‐driven Kelvin‐Helmholtz instability (KHI).

The Response of Normal Shocks in Diffusers [PDF]
The frequency response of a normal shock in a diverging channel is calculated for application to problems of pressure oscillations in ramjet engines. Two limits of a linearized analysis arc discussed: one represents isentropic flow on both sides of a ...

Stagnation Hugoniot Analysis for Steady Combustion Waves in Propulsion Systems [PDF]
The combustion mode in a steady-flow propulsion system has a strong influence on the overall efficiency of the system. To evaluate the relative merits of different modes, we propose that it is most appropriate to keep the upstream stagnation state fixed ...
