Patterning the Void: Combining L‐Systems with Archimedean Tessellations as a Perspective for Tissue Engineering Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel multi‐scale scaffold design using L‐fractals arranged in Archimedean tessellations for tissue regeneration. Despite similar porosity, tiles display vastly different tensile responses (1–100 MPa) and deformation modes. In vitro experiments with hMSCs show geometry‐dependent growth and activity. Over 55 000 tile combinations

Stress-Strain Relationships and Failure Load Analysis of Cement-Stabilized Rammed Earth under Concentric and Eccentric Loading Using Finite Element Modelling

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2022
Among many alternative building materials, soil in the form of rammed Earth is the most ancient construction material and technology. Large-scale application of the rammed Earth technology in the construction industry requires the assessment of its ...

Impact of Moisture Content on the Elasto-Viscoplastic Behaviour of Rammed Earth Wall: New Findings

open access: yesConstruction Materials, 2022
The influence of hydric state on the elasto-viscoplastic behaviour of a unstabilised rammed earth (URE) wall has yet to be studied in the literature. This paper presents an experimental campaign on a rammed earth wall.

Predicting Atomic Charges in MOFs by Topological Charge Equilibration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An atomic charge prediction method is presented that is able to accurately reproduce ab‐initio‐derived reference charges for a large number of metal–organic frameworks. Based on a topological charge equilibration scheme, static charges that fulfill overall neutrality are quickly generated.

Gypsum stabilization for enhancing the compressive behavior of rammed earth: experimental and statistical assessment

open access: yesFrontiers in Built Environment
Gypsum has historically been used as an additive in rammed earth construction to enhance its mechanical properties. However, its application has declined in modern practice, and scientific literature on gypsum-stabilized rammed earth remains limited ...

Cob, a vernacular earth construction process in the context of modern sustainable building [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The will of reducing environmental and social impact of building industry has led to a renewed interest in earth construction. Most of earth construction literature dealt with rammed earth or adobe techniques, but very little with cob.

Real‐Time 3D Ultrasound Imaging with an Ultra‐Sparse, Low Power Architecture

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a novel, ultra‐sparse ultrasound architecture that paves the way for wearable real‐time 3D imaging. By integrating a unique convolutional array with chirped data acquisition, the system achieves high‐resolution volumetric scans at a fraction of the power and hardware complexity.

Ductility Tuning via Cluster Network Characteristics of Porous Components

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Network optimization via cluster characteristics induced by interaction of stress concentration is proposed, demonstrating increased cluster size and dispersion in non‐uniform porous components. The optimized structures exhibit, for the first time, that enhanced ductility and damage progression is controllable through zigzag cluster network designed by
