Customization and Trade-offs in 5G RAN Slicing [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Communications Magazine, 2019
The heterogeneity of the requirements for 5G necessitate a versatile 5G radio access network (RAN); slicing offers a way of realizing a flexible RAN through customized virtual subnetworks. In this article, we focus on how enabling lower-layer flexibility in the RAN affects the development of RAN slicing, particularly in relation to ensuring isolation ...

Massive MIMO for Internet of Things (IoT) Connectivity

open access: yes, 2019
Massive MIMO is considered to be one of the key technologies in the emerging 5G systems, but also a concept applicable to other wireless systems. Exploiting the large number of degrees of freedom (DoFs) of massive MIMO essential for achieving high ...

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Optimizing Dynamic RAN Slicing in Programmable 5G Networks [PDF]

open access: yesICC 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), 2019
Network slicing is envisioned as a tool for 5G networks to provide network flexibility and isolation among different logical networks. While network slicing is well investigated in the fixed-network side, in the Radio Access Network (RAN) there remain challenging problems, which originate mainly from the stochastic nature of the wireless channels and ...

An Einstein-Bianchi system for Smooth Lattice General Relativity. I. The Schwarzschild spacetime

open access: yes, 2011
The second Bianchi identity can be recast as an evolution equation for the Riemann curvatures. Here we will report on such a system for a vacuum static spherically symmetric spacetime. This is the first of two papers.

Biodegradable and Recyclable Luminescent Mixed‐Matrix‐Membranes, Hydrogels, and Cryogels based on Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks and Biopolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...

AI-RAN resource configuration for non-collaborative cross-domain slicing

open access: yesJournal of Information and Intelligence
In the evolution from 5G to 6G, network slicing faces challenges due to the coexistence of multiple operators and service providers, where privacy constraints on configuration data and parameters restrict end-to-end slice deployment.

Flexible Resource Block Allocation to Multiple Slices for Radio Access Network Slicing Using Deep Reinforcement Learning

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
In the fifth-generation of mobile communications, network slicing is used to provide an optimal network for various services as a slice. In this paper, we propose a radio access network (RAN) slicing method that flexibly allocates RAN resources using ...

Security Trust Zone in 5G Networks

open access: yes, 2017
Fifth Generation (5G) telecommunication system is going to deliver a flexible radio access network (RAN). Security functions such as authorization, authentication and accounting (AAA) are expected to be distributed from central clouds to edge clouds.

Demonstration of an All‐Optical AND Gate Mediated by Photochromic Molecules

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A logic AND gate that runs on photons is demonstrated. It relies on two spatially separated photochromic molecules that work in tandem. Abstract The realization of a photonic logic AND gate, i.e. a logic AND gate that runs on photons rather than electrons, and where all steps are controlled by light, is demonstrated. In a proof‐of‐principle experiment,
