Ceramic-on-polyethylene: The experience of the Ranawat Orthopaedic Center
Seminars in Arthroplasty, 2013Abstract Traditionally, metal-on-polyethylene has been the gold standard bearing in total hip arthroplasty. Ceramics were introduced as an alternative bearing because of their superior mechanical properties. Our institution has found that ceramic-on-polyethylene has consistently shown lower in vivo wear rates compared to metal-on-polyethylene.

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 2005Tibial forces were measured in vivo during the first year after total knee arthroplasty in a 66 kg, 80-year-old man. Forces were measured during activities of daily living, rehabilitation, and exercise. Peak tibial forces recorded during walking increased up to 12 months postoperatively (2.8 times body weight).
