Reply to Dr. Ranawat’s Letter to the Editor

open access: yesAnnals of Joint, 2016
I’m honored that Dr. Chit Ranawat has read my recent paper, “Hip Resurfacing Using Highly Crosslinked Polyethylene: A Prospective Study with Mean Follow-Up of 8.5 Years” published in the Journal of Arthroplasty , 2016. I support his conclusion that for most patients, cementless total hip replacement (THR) is the right choice.

The Chitranjan Ranawat Award: Should Prophylactic Antibiotics Be Withheld Before Revision Surgery to Obtain Appropriate Cultures? [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Orthopaedics & Related Research, 2014
Preoperative antibiotics are known to be critical for decreasing the risk of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) in primary THA and TKA. However, antibiotics often are withheld before revision surgery, as there is concern that even a single dose of prophylactic antibiotics may affect intraoperative cultures. In this prospective randomized controlled ...

Chitranjan S. Ranawat Award: Motion During Total Knee Cementing Significantly Decreases Tibial Implant Fixation Strength

open access: yesThe Journal of Arthroplasty, 2022
Aseptic tibial loosening following primary total knee arthroplasty persists despite technique and device-related advancements. The mechanisms for this mode of failure are not well understood. We hypothesized that knee movement while the cement was curing dispersed lipids at the implant-cement interface and would result in decreased tibial fixation ...

The long time follow-up of craniovertebral junction fixation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis

open access: yesJournal of Craniovertebral Junction and Spine, 2012
Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can have very destructive effects, especially in the cervical spine. Bone quality is poor in these patients. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of fusion and accuracy of fluoroscopy in cervical ...

Neurologic outcome of surgical and conservative treatment of rheumatoid cervical spine subluxation: a systematic review

open access: yes, 2009
Objective. Rheumatoid arthritis commonly involves the upper cervical spine and can cause significant neurologic morbidity and mortality. However, there is no consensus on the optimal timing for surgical intervention: whether surgery should be performed ...

Cost-effectiveness analysis of Coblation versus mechanical shaver debridement in patients following knee chondroplasty

open access: yesCost Effectiveness and Resource Allocation, 2020
Background To compare costs and outcomes following knee chondroplasty with Coblation versus mechanical shaver debridement (MSD) in patients with grade III articular cartilage lesions of the knee. Methods A decision-analytic model was developed to compare

Increasing research on personalized alignment concepts, robotic‐assisted surgery and artificial intelligence in total knee arthroplasty: A bibliometric analysis of the last 10 years in KSSTA

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Orthopaedics, Volume 13, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract Purpose To evaluate contemporary trends in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) research published in Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy (KSSTA) over the last decade, with a focus on alignment concepts and surgical assistance technologies. Methods KSSTA articles on primary TKA published between 2015 and 2024 were identified through Scopus.

Potential of Melia dubia-wheat based agroforestry system to cope up with climate change

open access: yesEnvironment Conservation Journal, 2023
Climate change has impact on agricultural production, because it raises CO2 levels in the atmosphere, which leads to higher temperatures. Agroforestry systems aid in climate change adaptation and mitigation by providing relatively lower temperature ...

The Chitranjan Ranawat Award: The Nonoperated Knee Predicts Function 3 Years after Unilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Orthopaedics & Related Research, 2010
The long-term functional abilities of patients after a unilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are influenced by the status of the nonoperated knee at the time of the TKA. We hypothesized that in the 3 years after TKA, the nonoperated limb would become more painful, and the quadriceps muscles would weaken; pain and strength would influence performance

Enterobacter Species: Opportunistic Human and Plant Pathogens With Plant‐Beneficial Traits

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, Volume 27, Issue 3, March 2026.
The pathogen profile on Enterobacter species synthesises current knowledge on host range, disease symptoms, plant‐beneficial traits and compares genomic features within the genus. ABSTRACT Enterobacter species occur across diverse habitats and are best known for causing opportunistic and nosocomial infections in humans.
