A comparative study of the accuracy of Ranawat's and Pierchon's methods to determine the centre of rotation in bilateral coxopathy

Skeletal Radiology, 2000
The objective of the study was to compare two methods (Ranawat's and Pierchon's) used to determine the centre of rotation of the hip and establish which method calculates a position nearer to the real centre of rotation. We selected 24 patients with unilateral osteoarthritis of the hip.

Is Ranawat triangle method accurate in estimating hip joint center in Japanese population?

Journal of Orthopaedic Science, 2021
Little information has been available regarding the usefulness of Ranawat triangle method in estimating anatomical hip joint center in the Japanese population. In this study, we aimed to determine the accuracy of the method in estimating hip joint center.Using digitally reconstructed radiographs of 123 normal hips (123 patients), we measured the hip ...

Periarticular Injection After Total Knee Arthroplasty Using Liposomal Bupivacaine vs a Modified Ranawat Suspension: A Prospective, Randomized Study

Journal of Arthroplasty, 2016
The purpose of this study is to compare liposomal bupivacaine to a modified (Ranawat) local injection for total knee arthroplasty (TKA).This is a prospective, randomized study of 105 consecutive patients undergoing primary TKA. Group A patients received a periarticular injection with liposomal bupivacaine and group B with a mixture of ropivacaine ...

Ceramic-on-polyethylene: The experience of the Ranawat Orthopaedic Center

Seminars in Arthroplasty, 2013
Abstract Traditionally, metal-on-polyethylene has been the gold standard bearing in total hip arthroplasty. Ceramics were introduced as an alternative bearing because of their superior mechanical properties. Our institution has found that ceramic-on-polyethylene has consistently shown lower in vivo wear rates compared to metal-on-polyethylene.

THE CHITRANJAN RANAWAT AWARD: In Vivo Knee Forces after Total Knee Arthroplasty

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 2005
Tibial forces were measured in vivo during the first year after total knee arthroplasty in a 66 kg, 80-year-old man. Forces were measured during activities of daily living, rehabilitation, and exercise. Peak tibial forces recorded during walking increased up to 12 months postoperatively (2.8 times body weight).

The Ranawat Award. Sulcus morphology of the distal femur.

Clinical orthopaedics and related research, 1996
Traditional images of the distal femur place the intercondylar groove midway between the condyles. The location of the sulcus of the intercondylar groove in a large Sudanese skeletal population was verified using a custom stereotactic device. The results of this study show that the femoral sulcus is lateral to the midplane between the 2 femoral ...

The Ranawat Award. Comparison of surgical approaches in total knee arthroplasty.

Clinical orthopaedics and related research, 1999
A series of 123 revision total knee replacements performed at three centers and followed up for 2 to 4 years was evaluated. In cases in which exposure could be obtained with undue tension on the patellar tendon, the surgical approach was modified using either quadriceps turndown (14 cases) or tibial tubercle osteotomy (15 cases).
