We compare 2 methods (Ranawat's and Pierchon's) used to determine the centre of rotation of the hip, and attempt to establish which method calculates a position nearer to the real centre of rotation using informatics tools. We selected 17 patients with at least 1 healthy hip and made a pelvis anteroposterior X-ray.

The Impact of Traveling Fellowships: Perspectives From Rothman-Ranawat Travel Fellows
The Journal of ArthroplastyTraveling fellowships, such as the Hip Society Rothman-Ranawat fellowship, offer orthopaedic surgeons the opportunity to enhance their skills, conduct research, and gain mentorship at top orthopaedic centers. This study aimed to assess the impact of the Hip Society Rothman-Ranawat traveling fellowship on an adult reconstruction surgeon's career.A non ...

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 2006
We examined factors affecting survivorship, and reasons for reoperation and revision of a cemented modular condylar total knee arthroplasty (TKA). One thousand and eight consecutive primary cemented cruciate-retaining TKAs performed at one institution were studied.

The Ranawat Award. Femoral component rotation during total knee arthroplasty.
Clinical orthopaedics and related research, 1999One-hundred consecutive posterior cruciate retaining total knee arthroplasties were performed by one surgeon in 81 patients with an average age of 69 years. Diagnoses included osteoarthritis in 93 knees and rheumatoid arthritis in seven. The femoral alignment necessary to create a rectangular flexion gap was determined and compared with Whiteside's ...

The Ranawat Award. Sulcus morphology of the distal femur.
Clinical orthopaedics and related research, 1996Traditional images of the distal femur place the intercondylar groove midway between the condyles. The location of the sulcus of the intercondylar groove in a large Sudanese skeletal population was verified using a custom stereotactic device. The results of this study show that the femoral sulcus is lateral to the midplane between the 2 femoral ...

The Ranawat Award. Comparison of surgical approaches in total knee arthroplasty.
Clinical orthopaedics and related research, 1999A series of 123 revision total knee replacements performed at three centers and followed up for 2 to 4 years was evaluated. In cases in which exposure could be obtained with undue tension on the patellar tendon, the surgical approach was modified using either quadriceps turndown (14 cases) or tibial tubercle osteotomy (15 cases).

Previous reports have identified several potential predictors of pain and function after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). However, the results of these studies are conflicting, and most have a short follow-up after TKA. The purpose of this study was to identify factors predictive of pain and function five years after TKA.A multicenter cohort of 3,688 ...

The purpose of this study is to compare liposomal bupivacaine to a modified (Ranawat) local injection for total knee arthroplasty (TKA).This is a prospective, randomized study of 105 consecutive patients undergoing primary TKA. Group A patients received a periarticular injection with liposomal bupivacaine and group B with a mixture of ropivacaine ...

Vertical Settling in Rheumatoid Arthritis
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1989The usefulness of the recently developed Ranawat and Redlund-Johnell craniometric methods was compared with that of the conventional McGregor method for diagnosing vertical settling (VS) of the skull and the atlas on the axis in 209 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Open door laminoplasty of lordotic spondylogenic myelopathy Ranawat IIIa improves walking ability
2011During the last 50 years, anterior cervical decompression gained popularity so that posterior procedures are almost forgotten. The aim of this study was to present results of open door laminoplasty in lordotic spondylogenic cervical myelopathy Ranawat IIIa patients.
