Vertical Settling in Rheumatoid Arthritis

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1989
The usefulness of the recently developed Ranawat and Redlund-Johnell craniometric methods was compared with that of the conventional McGregor method for diagnosing vertical settling (VS) of the skull and the atlas on the axis in 209 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Predictors of outcome in the quadriparetic nonambulatory myelopathic patient with rheumatoid arthritis: a prospective study of 55 surgically treated Ranawat Class IIIb patients

Journal of Neurosurgery, 1996
✓ The functional results of surgery in patients with myelopathic nonambulatory rheumatoid arthritis (Ranawat Class IIIb) are often disappointing, with high rates of postoperative morbidity and mortality. The authors therefore undertook a detailed investigation of a cohort of 55 Ranawat Class IIIb patients (11 men and 44 women) with a mean age of 64.7 ...

The Risk of Direct Peroneal Nerve Injury Using the Ranawat “Inside-Out” Lateral Release Technique in Valgus Total Knee Arthroplasty

The Journal of Arthroplasty, 2010
The purposes of our study are to define a "danger zone" and a "safe zone" to avoid common peroneal nerve direct injury performing the "inside-out" release technique of posterior-lateral corner during total knee arthroplasty and to identify anatomic landmarks to localize the nerve before the soft-tissues release. Twenty cadaver dissections were used for

Ranawat Award paper. Effect of selective lateral ligament release on stability in knee arthroplasty.

Clinical orthopaedics and related research, 2002
The current authors evaluated a fundamental approach to balancing the lateral ligaments of the knee that begins with aligning the implants correctly in flexion and extension, proceeds to assessing stability in flexion and extension, and concludes with releasing tight structures based on their function throughout the arc of flexion. Seventeen knees from

Open door laminoplasty of lordotic spondylogenic myelopathy Ranawat IIIa improves walking ability

2011
During the last 50 years, anterior cervical decompression gained popularity so that posterior procedures are almost forgotten. The aim of this study was to present results of open door laminoplasty in lordotic spondylogenic cervical myelopathy Ranawat IIIa patients.

Articulating versus static spacers in revision total knee arthroplasty for sepsis. The Ranawat Award.

Clinical orthopaedics and related research, 2000
Antibiotic laden spacer blocks frequently are used to treat an infected total knee arthroplasty. Static spacer blocks make exposure at reimplantation difficult secondary to quadriceps shortening. Unexpected bone loss attributable to migration of the spacer block also has been reported.

The Ranawat Award. Histology of nine structural bone grafts used in total knee arthroplasty.

Clinical orthopaedics and related research, 1998
The cross section radiographs and histology of nine bone grafts were examined to determine whether grafts are durable enough to support a total knee implant when the load is shared by host bone, graft bone, and a stemmed component. All cases had cemented total knee arthroplasties with stemmed components adjacent to bulk grafts.

[Treatment of valgus deformity by total knee arthroplasty with modified Ranawat soft tissue balance technique].

Zhongguo xiu fu chong jian wai ke za zhi = Zhongguo xiufu chongjian waike zazhi = Chinese journal of reparative and reconstructive surgery, 2010
To evaluate the efficacy of modified Ranawat soft tissue balance technique on total knee arthroplasty (TKA).From January 2004 to June 2008, 34 cases (44 knees) of valgus deformity were treated with TKA. There were 5 males (5 knees) and 29 females (39 knees), aged 55-79 years old (average 60.3 years old) and including 18 left knees and 26 right knees ...
