The Local Spillover Effect of Marijuana Liberalization: Evidence From Material Misstatements

open access: yesAccounting &Finance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study documents an organizational spillover effect of marijuana liberalization on corporate financial reporting quality. Exploiting the staggered adoption of state‐level medical marijuana legalization (MML) laws, we find that firms headquartered in states adopting MMLs experience a higher likelihood of material misstatements.

Vog: Using Volcanic Eruptions to Estimate the Health Costs of Particulates

open access: yesThe Economic Journal, EarlyView., 2018
The negative consequences of long‐term exposure to particulate pollution are well established but a number of studies find no effect of short‐term exposure on health outcomes. The high correlation of industrial pollutants complicates the estimation of the impact of individual pollutants on health.

Graphical Abstract This study found reciprocal associations between angry parenting and child externalizing behaviours, with maternal effects emerging earlier and more strongly than paternal effects. Interparental conflict was not a reliable predictor of change. Results highlight the value of targeting maternal parenting in efforts to prevent childhood
