A Note on Estimated Coefficients in Random Effects Probit Models. [PDF]

open access: yes
This note points out to applied researchers what adjustments are needed to the coefficient estimates in a random effects probit model in order to make valid comparisons in terms of coefficient estimates and marginal effects across different ...

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Environmental technology’s diminishing marginal returns: a study of green patents and emission reductions in China

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science
IntroductionDo environmental technologies always yield desirable returns? This study addresses this question through the lens of command-and-control environmental regulation.

A Theory of Attribution [PDF]

open access: yes
Attribution of economic joint effects is achieved with a random order model of their relative importance. Random order consistency and elementary axioms uniquely identify linear and proportional marginal attribution.

Linear Models with Nested Random Effects

open access: yesSymmetry
Symmetry is a crucial concept in various fields of mathematics, offering a systematic approach to understanding structural properties and simplifying complex problems. This study focuses on linear mixed models, emphasizing the role of symmetry in the design of experiments and the structure of variance–covariance matrices. Building on foundational works,

Erythropoietin modulates hepatic inflammation, glucose homeostasis, and soluble epoxide hydrolase and epoxides in high‐fat diet‐induced obese mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Erythropoietin administration suppresses hepatic soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) expression, leading to increased CYP‐derived epoxides. This is associated with a shift in hepatic macrophage polarization characterized by reduced M1 markers and increased M2 markers, along with reduced hepatic inflammation, suppressed hepatic lipogenesis, and attenuated ...

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Optimality criteria for models with random effects

open access: yes, 2009
Summary: In the context of linear models, an optimality criterion is developed for models that include random effects. Traditional information-based criteria are premised on all model effects being regarded as fixed. When treatments and/or nuisance parameters are assumed to be random effects, an appropriate optimality criterion can be developed under ...
