Transverse fracture often occurs early in the loading history and is one of the key issues limiting the composite structural design. However, the mechanical behavior under transverse loading can not be represented by traditional micromechanical model ...

A phase-field model of relaxor ferroelectrics based on random field theory
A mechanically coupled phase-field model is proposed for the first time to simulate the peculiar behavior of relaxor ferroelectrics. Based on the random field theory for relaxors, local random fields are introduced to characterize the effect of chemical ...

Fluid Forces Control Structural Remodeling of Blind‐Ended Lymphatic Microvessels
Using innovative microfluidic biofabrication with fluid mechanical insights, we recapitulated the blind‐ended microanatomy and physiological drainage properties of capillary lymphatics. Our results reveal the interrelationship between intra‐ and extraluminal regions of lymphatic vessels due to flow‐induced sprouting and morphological changes that ...

Numerical modelling of fibre composites with random-elastic components
An original idea of the Stochastic Finite Element Method (SFEM) application in numerical modeling of random fluctuations of elastic properties of fibre composites components has been presented in this paper. The displacement and the stress random fields

Understanding the Effects of Conductive Polymer Electrode Coating on Recorded Neural Signals
Conductive polymer coatings are widely explored to improve the quality of signals recorded with chronically implanted neural electrodes, offering enhanced biocompatibility along with reduced electrode impedance. Combining computational modelling and data from PEDOT:PTS coated and PtIr electrodes in rats, we show that improvements in signal quality with

Wound closure is governed by geometry‐orientation coupling: aligned fibers speed migration along their axis but hinder perpendicular advance. In vivo diabetic wound experiments with composition‐matched fibrin, combined with an anisotropic diffusion (biased random‐walk) model, quantify this trade‐off and generate a healing landscape.

To dissect how mechanical forces influence intestinal physiology, we developed a stretchable 3D colon‐on‐chip that integrates tunable topography, stiffness and peristalsis‐like motion within a physiologically relevant microenvironment. We showed that stretching is a dominant factor governing epithelial behavior, markedly enhancing proliferation and ...
