Random Lasers

2022
One essential component of a laser is the cavity, which provides optical confinement and feedback for lasing oscillation. In a highly disordered medium, light experiences multiple scattering and undergoes a random walk. Surprisingly, lasing can occur in a random system without well-defined cavities.

Dissolvable and Recyclable Random Lasers

ACS Nano, 2017
An integrated random laser based on green materials with dissolubility and recyclability is created and demonstrated. The dissolvable and recyclable random laser (DRRL) can be dissolved in water, accompanying the decay of emission intensity and the increment in lasing threshold.

Lasers with Random Stack Mirrors

Applied Optics, 1970
The behavior of Q-switched, free-running, and mode-locked laser oscillators, with one cavity mirror consisting of a stack of thin glass plates, is described. The beam divergence can equal that obtained with a thin film coated dielectric mirror, but intensity and spatial coherence vary over the beam cross section.

The physics and applications of random lasers

Nature Physics, 2008
Recent developments in the field of micro and nanophotonics have shown that it is possible to make use of the intrinsic disorder in photonic materials to create useful optical structures. An example is that of a random laser, in which laser action is obtained in disordered structures such as powders and porous glasses. Although these materials are easy

A curvature-tunable random laser

Nanoscale, 2019
We report the first experimental demonstration of curvature-tunable random lasers to control the transport mean free path of emitted photons.

THEORY OF A RANDOM FIBER LASER

Журнал Экспериментальной и Теоретической Физики, 2014
We develop the theory explaining the role of nonlinearity in generation of radiation in a fiber laser that is pumped by external light. The pumping energy is converted into the generating signal due to the Raman scattering supplying an effective gain for the signal.

PARTIALLY PUMPED RANDOM LASERS

International Journal of Modern Physics B, 2014
Conventional lasers consist of two components: a gain material that is pumped in order to provide amplification of light and a cavity to provide feedback. Random lasers replace the traditional laser cavity with a random, multiple-scattering medium. This can give rise to complex lasing behavior, such as unpredictable multidirectional and multifrequency

Random Laser in One Dimension

Physical Review Letters, 2002
We present an analytical approach to random lasing in a one-dimensional medium, consistent with transfer matrix numerical simulations. It is demonstrated that the lasing threshold is defined by transmission through the passive medium and thus depends exponentially on the size of the system.

Random-wavelength solid-state laser

Optics Letters, 2004
The spectral properties of a diode-pumped Yb:Y2O3 ceramic laser are reported. We show experimentally that the instantaneous emission wavelengths of the laser change randomly with time, whereas its emission has fixed well-defined transverse modes. The central wavelength of the laser emission also shifts prominently with the increase of intracavity light

Chaotic Behavior of Random Lasers

2010
Light transport in disordered systems can be described as a multiple scattering process in which light waves are multiply scattered by random variations of the refractive index of the material. This has close analogies with other transport phenomena, such as electrons in a conducting material, sounds waves in random structures, and even matter waves. A
