Manipulating and controlling the optical energy flow inside random media is a research frontier of photonics and the basis of novel laser designs. In particular, light amplification in randomly dispersed active inclusions under external pumping has been extensively investigated, although it still lacks external tunability, reproducibility, and control ...

Thermo-recurrent nematic random laser
This experimental work is aimed to investigate the thermal behavior of random laser action in dye doped nematic liquid crystals. The study evidenced an important temperature dependence of the random lasing characteristics in the nematic phase and in close proximity of the nematicisotropic (N-I) phase transition.

RoundMi: A quantitative method to analyze mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells
RoundMi is a workflow for rapid analysis of mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells. By combining adaptive preprocessing with automated segmentation and quantification, it enables accurate measurements from single focal plane images, reducing acquisition time and computational demands while remaining compatible with high‐throughput fixed and live ...

Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

A simple novel method for random number generation is presented, based on a random Raman fiber laser. This laser is built in a half-open cavity scheme, closed on one side by a narrow-linewidth 100 mm fiber Bragg grating.

Nuclear Excitation by a Zeptosecond Multi--MeV Laser Pulse
A zeptosecond multi--MeV laser pulse may either excite a "plasma" of strongly interacting nucleons or a collective mode. We derive the conditions on laser energy and photon number such that either of these scenarios is realized.

Second-harmonic generation of ZnO nanoparticles synthesized by laser ablation of solids in liquids [PDF]
We report the synthesis of small zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) based colloidal suspensions and the study of second-harmonic generation from aggregated ZnO NPs deposited on glass substrates.

Are random lasers really random?
Randomness may be intractable and could hamper human beings from discovering underlying rules. Yet, somehow, large amounts of randomness can bring about grand patterns in nature. Randomness truly underpins human curiosity to understand the truth. Random lasers, as one of the paradigms of disordered photonics, feature chaotic lasing behavior. Due to the

ABSTRACT Objective Accurate localization of epileptogenic tubers (ETs) in patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is essential but challenging, as these tubers lack distinct pathological or genetic markers to differentiate them from other cortical tubers.
