Occupational Context Moderates the Association Between Agreeableness and Brain Structure

open access: yesBrain Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Previous research on associations between personality traits and brain structure has yielded inconsistent findings, suggesting that such relationships may depend on contextual factors. Methods This study examined whether occupational context moderates the association between agreeableness and gray matter volume (GMV). Structural MRI

Ergodic and algebraic properties of transfer operators for products of random matrices

open access: yes, 2018
A recent paper by Pollicott in 2010 presented an efficient algorithm for computing the Lyapunov exponent of i.i.d. random products of positive matrices. The aim of this thesis is to generalise some of the aspects of Pollicott's approach to Markovian and ...

A hidden Markov model and reinforcement learning‐based strategy for fault‐tolerant control

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract This study introduces a data‐driven control strategy integrating hidden Markov models (HMM) and reinforcement learning (RL) to achieve resilient, fault‐tolerant operation against persistent disturbances in nonlinear chemical processes. Called hidden Markov model and reinforcement learning (HMMRL), this strategy is evaluated in two case studies

A goodness‐of‐fit test for regression models with discrete outcomes

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
Abstract Regression models are often used to analyze discrete outcomes, but classical goodness‐of‐fit tests such as those based on the deviance or Pearson's statistic can be misleading or have little power in this context. To address this issue, we propose a new test, inspired by the work of Czado et al.

How Is FinTech Shaping Household Portfolio Behaviour?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Finance &Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines how FinTech adoption influences household portfolio allocation across major advanced economies. Using a flow‐of‐funds framework and the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS), we model household demand for currency, deposits, loans, debt securities, and equity in the United States, United Kingdom, Euro Area, Japan and Australia.

Extending the hyper‐logistic model to the random setting: New theoretical results with real‐world applications

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView.
We develop a full randomization of the classical hyper‐logistic growth model by obtaining closed‐form expressions for relevant quantities of interest, such as the first probability density function of its solution, the time until a given fixed population is reached, and the population at the inflection point.

Stratégies de recyclage de sous-espaces de Krylov pour des suites d'équations elliptiques stochastiques échantillonnées

open access: yes, 2021
We are interested in the quantification of uncertainties in discretized elliptic partial differential equations with a random coefficient field. In sampling-based approaches, this relies on solving large numbers of symmetric positive definite (SPD ...

Uncertainty, Sensitivity, and Efficiency Analysis of a Hybrid Piezoelectric–Electromagnetic Energy Harvester

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Digitalization and emerging technologies are increasing the demand for wireless sensing and the Internet of Things (IoT), which provide opportunities for autonomous sources of electricity in the form of energy harvesting systems. This paper focuses on the challenges in hybrid piezoelectric‐electromagnetic kinetic energy harvesting systems that

Free Probability Theory

open access: yes, 2005
Free probability theory is a line of research which parallels aspects of classical probability, in a non-commutative context where tensor products are replaced by free products, and independent random variables are replaced by free random variables.
