This paper is concerned with the optimum interpolation of sampled data when various types of jitter are present. The two basic types of jitter are the departures from intended sampling times in taking the data (read in jitter) and the misplacement of the sample pulses from the intended times when they enter the interpolation filter (read out jitter ...

BASIC algorithms for random sampling and treatment randomization
Computers in Biology and Medicine, 1991Five BASIC programs to select random samples from populations or to randomize treatments are presented. Program 1 is used to obtain randomization of any number of treatments in an equal number of positions or test units for any number of replicates. Program 2 produces latin squares of any size for treatment randomization.

Five years ago, Australian screenwriter Eron Sheean spent several months at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics as an artist in residence; now he's back with a film crew and actors to shoot a feature film there that he says is "a little science fiction and a little science fact." And this week's numbers quantify surface ...

Record low numbers of monarch butterflies wintering in Mexico have researchers worried that the stunning annual migration is dwindling. And in an effort to track the changing habits and diet of polar bears, Quinoa the Dutch shepherd applies his scat-sniffing prowess.

The 2013 Ig Nobel prizes honor research that "makes people laugh, and then makes them think." Among the winners: scientists who discovered that dung beetles use the Milky Way to navigate, and a team that found that mice with heart transplants lived three times longer when exposed to opera music.

AbstractThis chapter provides an overview of generating samples from random variables with a given (joint) distribution, and using these samples to find quantities of interest from digital signals. This task plays a fundamental role in many problems in statistical machine learning and signal processing. For example, effectively simulating the behaviour
