Optimal Design of Smooth Shells both With and Without Taking into Account Initial Imperfections [PDF]
This paper considers the application of the random search method for the optimal design of both axially-compressed smooth cylindrical ideal thin-walled shells and a shell with initial imperfections.

Random Backtracking in Backtrack Search Algorithms for Satisfiability
This paper proposes the utilization of randomized backtracking within complete backtrack search algorithms for propositional satisfiability (SAT). In recent years, randomization has become pervasive in SAT algorithms.

Random Search and Reproducibility for Neural Architecture Search
Neural architecture search (NAS) is a promising research direction that has the potential to replace expert-designed networks with learned, task-specific architectures. In this work, in order to help ground the empirical results in this field, we propose new NAS baselines that build off the following observations: (i) NAS is a specialized ...

Search for the smallest random forest [PDF]
Random forests have emerged as one of the most commonly used nonparametric statistical methods in many scientific areas, particularly in analysis of high throughput genomic data. A general practice in using random forests is to generate a sufficiently large number of trees, although it is subjective as to how large is sufficient.

The Levy flight paradigm - random search patterns and mechanisms
Over recent years there has been an accumulation of evidence from a variety of experimental, theoretical, and field studies that many organisms use a movement strategy approximated by Levy flights when they are searching for resources.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
