Random number generation and working memory. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We demonstrate the close relationship that exists between random sequence generation and working memory functioning. We clarify the nature of this link by examining the impact of concurrent requirements for random sequence response quality.

Similarity Search Based on Random Projection for High Frequency Time Series

open access: yes, 2008
Similarity search in high frequency time series of domains as diverse as finance, marketing and industry has attracted much research attention recently. The main notions used in similarity search for time series are defined in a formal way.

Translophagy—A potential link between autophagy impairment and translational errors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neurodegenerative diseases are characterised by the accumulation of abnormal proteins and protein aggregates, but their origin often remains unknown. We propose that selective autophagy removes damaged protein‐making machinery, preventing errors during protein synthesis.

‘Guide and Prejudice’— How Argonautes recognize targets across domains of life

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Argonaute proteins use short nucleic‐acid guides to locate and regulate specific targets across all domains of life. Despite striking diversity—from human gene silencing to bacterial immune defence—all Argonautes share a conserved three‐stage recognition logic: guide‐directed sampling, progressive target pairing with a conformational checkpoint and ...

Optimization and Assessment of Wavelet Packet Decompositions with Evolutionary Computation

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2003
In image compression, the wavelet transformation is a state-of-the-art component. Recently, wavelet packet decomposition has received quite an interest.

Relational random forests based on random relational rules [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Random Forests have been shown to perform very well in propositional learning. FORF is an upgrade of Random Forests for relational data. In this paper we investigate shortcomings of FORF and propose an alternative algorithm, R⁴F, for generating Random ...

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Four-factor computing experiment for the random walk on a two-dimensional square field [PDF]

open access: yesКомпьютерные исследования и моделирование, 2017
Nowadays the random search became a widespread and effective tool for solving different complex optimization and adaptation problems. In this work, the problem of an average duration of a random search for one object by another is regarded, depending on ...

Flow Enabled Target Capture Halbach‐based magnetic enrichment increases circulating tumor cell capture from blood in metastatic cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pair‐wise comparison of the CellSearch and FETCH enrichment technologies for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from metastatic breast, prostate, and small cell lung cancer patients shows an increased capture of CTCs using FETCH enrichment. The clinical implementation of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) as a predictive tool for therapy efficacy in the ...
