In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Convergence of Nonrandomly Centered Random Sums

open access: yesAdvances in Applied Mathematics, 1994
The authors obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for the convergence of centered random sums under the hypothesis of convergence of nonrandom sums of the same random variables. The result extends previous ones of the authors. One of the benefits of the approach taken here is its generality and simplicity.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Sign changes of the partial sums of a random multiplicative function II

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Mathématique
We study two models of random multiplicative functions: Rademacher random multiplicative functions supported on the squarefree integers $f$, and Rademacher random completely multiplicative functions $f^*$. We prove that the partial sums $\sum _{n\le x}f^*

Prediction of Components in Random Sums [PDF]

open access: yesMethodology and Computing in Applied Probability, 2016
We consider predictions of the random number and the magnitude of each iid component in a random sum based on its distributional structure, where only a total value of the sum is available and where iid random components are non-negative. The problem is motivated by prediction problems in a Poisson shot noise process.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Plasma extrachromosomal circular DNA as a biomarker in EGFR‐targeted therapy of non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detection of extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) in plasma samples from EGFR‐mutated non‐small cell lung cancer patients. Plasma was collected before and during treatment with the EGFR‐tyrosine kinase inhibitor osimertinib. Plasma eccDNA was detected in all cancer samples, and the presence of the EGFR gene on eccDNA serves as a potential biomarker ...

Sharp Convex Bounds on the Aggregate Sums–An Alternative Proof

open access: yesRisks, 2016
It is well known that a random vector with given marginals is comonotonic if and only if it has the largest convex sum, and that a random vector with given marginals (under an additional condition) is mutually exclusive if and only if it has the minimal ...
