Entropy and Random Vectors

Journal of Statistical Physics, 2001
The central limit theorem for real-valued independent identically distributed random variables where the convergence in relative entropy is considered was shown by \textit{A. R. Barron} [Ann. Probab. 14, 336-342 (1986; Zbl 0599.60024)]. The paper gives a similar result for independent real-valued random vectors, not necessarily identically distributed.

Bivariate Gamma Random Vectors

Operations Research, 1982
A seven-parameter family of bivariate probability distributions is developed which allows for any gamma marginal distributions, any associated correlation (positive or negative), and a range of regression curves. The form of the family, which relies on the reproducibility property of the gamma distribution, is motivated by the search for tractable ...

Asymmetric bagging and random subspace for support vector machines-based relevance feedback in image retrieval [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2006
Relevance feedback schemes based on support vector machines (SVM) have been widely used in content-based image retrieval (CBIR). However, the performance of SVM-based relevance feedback is often poor when the number of labeled positive feedback samples ...

Random Averaging of Vector Elements

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1984
It is shown that the law of large numbers holds for the random vector sequence \(X_ n\) given by starting from a real vector \((x_ 1,x_ 2,...,x_ n)\) and successively replacing \(x^ i_{n-1}\) and \(x^ j_{n-1}\) by \(\lambda x^ i_{n-1}+x^ j_{n-1}(1-\lambda)\) and \((1- \lambda)x^ i_{n-1}+\lambda x^ j_{n-1}\), respectively, with random choice of i,j, and

On the PDF of the sum of random vectors

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2000
Summary: There are various cases in physics and engineering sciences (especially communications) where one requires the envelope probability density function (pdf) of the sum of several random sinusoidal signals. According to the correspondence between a random sinusoidal signal and a random vector, the sum of random vectors can be considered as an ...
