Wave Propagation in a Random Lattice. I

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1972
The small amplitude periodic classical motion of a lattice of particles about their equilibrium positions in a lattice is considered. The effect of random masses and random spring constants upon the coherent or mean motion is treated by using an equation for the coherent motion derived previously by Keller and others.

Numerical simulations of random sound waves

Waves in Random Media, 2002
Summary: We perform one-dimensional numerical simulations of both driven and impulsively generated sound waves propagating through a medium whose mass density admits time-independent random fluctuations. While the amplitude of both types of wave is always attenuated, driven sound waves can be either retarded or speeded up, depending on their wavenumber

Beach Evolution Under Random Waves

Coastal Engineering 1996, 1997
This paper considers the evolution of steep mobile sediment beaches under random waves and results from a new experimental investigation are presented. Both hydrodynamic data obtained over fixed beds and the resulting profile evolution of fine, coarse and bimodal sediment beaches are discussed. Wave heights and undertow in the inner surf zone are found

Computation of Sea-Wave Direction of Propagation of Random Waves

Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering, 1995
In the last 20 years, the application of the random wave theory in maritime engineering has been given the utmost importance, especially for evaluating design wave conditions, loads on structures, and sand littoral drift. The aim of the paper is to present a general expression for the evaluation of the local energy flux vector of random waves.

Statistics of waves propagating in a random medium

Physical Review B, 1993
We present a review of part of the results obtained by the authors for the statistics of coherent radiation propagating in a random medium both in the framework of diagrammatic techniques and random matrix theory. Distribution functions for the total transmission coefficient and the angular transmission coefficient for the diffusive transport and the ...

Waves with random coupling and random propagation constants

Applied Scientific Research, 1984
We study the mathematical treatment of transmission statistics of coupled wave devices with random imperfections. Such devices include multi-mode waveguides or optical fibers, directional couplers at waveguide or optical frequencies, dominant-wave transmission lines (with the reflected wave the spurious mode), lumped filters composed of circuit or of ...
