THE CONTROL OF WAVE ASYMMETRIES IN RANDOM WAVES

open access: yesCoastal Engineering Proceedings, 1982
The concept of wave asymmetry is reviewed and a prototype wave record is analysed. A three stage non-linear transformation, together with a Fourier transform substitution technique, is described. The method is tested by numerical simulation using statistical analysis procedures. Physical realizations are compared graphically.

Random Wave Simulation in a Laboratory Wave Tank

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1976, 1976
Most of coastal engineering problems have been studied with monocromatic waves. However, sea waves which arrive at the coast are random. It is very difficult to estimate exactly the influence of these random waves to coastal structures. Then the model tests in a laboratory wave tank using random wave simulation techniques seem to be most desirable way ...

Nonparametric Identification Model of Coupled Heave–Pitch Motion for Ships by Using the Measured Responses at Sea

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
In order to simulate or control the coupled heave–pitch motion of ships in waves as realistically as possible, an appropriate mathematical model must be established in advance.

Experimental Analysis of Wave Overtopping: A New Small Scale Laboratory Dataset for the Assessment of Uncertainty for Smooth Sloped and Vertical Coastal Structures

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2019
Most physical model tests carried out to quantify wave overtopping are conducted using a wave energy spectrum, which is then used to generate a free surface wave time series at the wave paddle. This method means that an infinite number of time series can

Experimental study on the turbulent jet in regular and random waves

open access: yesShui kexue jinzhan, 2013
The flow fields of a vertical round jet in regular and random waves are measured by a 3-D AcousticDoppler Velocimeter. The phenomenon of "twin peaks" is found on the cross-sections of the jet vertical velocity in regular waves when close to the free ...

Time Scale for Scour Beneath Pipelines Due to Long-Crested and Short-Crested Nonlinear Random Waves Plus Current

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
This article derives the time scale of pipeline scour caused by 2D (long-crested) and 3D (short-crested) nonlinear irregular waves and current for wave-dominant flow.

Generation mechanism and prediction of an observed extreme rogue wave

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Rogue waves are individual ocean surface waves with crest height $$\eta$$ η or trough-to-crest height H that are large compared to the significant wave height $$H_s$$ H s of the underlying sea state: $$H/H_s>2.2$$ H / H s > 2.2 or $$\eta /H_s>1.25$$ η ...

Numerical Analysis of the Submerged Horizontal Plate Device Subjected to Representative Regular and Realistic Irregular Waves of a Sea State

open access: yesFluids
This study numerically analyzes a submerged horizontal plate (SHP) device subjected to both regular and irregular waves. This device can be used either as a breakwater or a wave energy converter (WEC).

Modulations of Stochastic Modeling in the Structural and Energy Aspects of the Kundu–Mukherjee–Naskar System

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
By using stochastic modeling, the investigation of the energy and wave characteristics of novel structures that develop in the sea and ocean currents becomes one of the most important advancements in the generation of sustainable and renewable energy ...

Numerical Study of Local Scour around Tripod Foundation in Random Waves

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
In this study, the local scour around tripods in random waves is numerically investigated. The seabed-tripod-fluid numerical model with an RNG k−ε turbulence model is built and validated.
